I've taken a trip to Rock today which is just the opposite side of Padstow in Cornwall. Rock is famous for being quite affluent but it also houses the Mariners which is owned by a fantastic chef called Paul Ainsworth. Let's give this one a go!

I've been waiting for the '10' as I promised myself I would post a comment. Gary, your channel should not work. Some random middle-aged, middle-class English chap going to random restaurants and talking, with no fanfare, about dishes, service, ambience, price, all the while covered by an extremely illusive Cameraman. No crazy thumbnails, no obvious pattern of restaurant choice, no focus on the obvious targets. Your channel should not work. I have a sheet on my wall next to my desk, that counts your subscribers since January 1st this year (at that time fractionally over 40k and I had been hooked for some time). You've just doubled it in less than five months. That's unheard of. Honesty. No Frills. Simple. Concise. Believable. Trustworthy. Erudite. REAL. Gary, your channel should not work. But it's fast becoming the best channel on YouTube. Please please please don't ever change! And thank you.

He’s one of the only food reviewers that doesn’t eat really loudly or with mouth open refreshing he has manners seems a lovely chap! 👍🏼
  • I hope Rick Stein is taking notes! People don't mind paying extra for real quality!

Not sure what will be more joyful, seeing Gary eat at another seafood restaurant or seeing him pass 100k YouTube subs and get his plaque. Which he richly deserves.

Whenever I’ve seen Paul Ainsworth on the TV he always comes across as a really humble and nice guy who treats his staff really well too. Not the attitude or ego of some other “celebrity” chefs. Food looks absolutely delicious 👍👍

You can’t get a meal of that quality anywhere for that price - I don’t call that expensive - I call it great value - good things are worth paying for 👍🏻👍🏻
  • @gooders4648
It’s good to see a celebrity chef’s restaurant living up to the name!! Paul should be proud of this place, class!!

As a Cornishman and an ex fisherman of a certain age, I can remember people freaking out when they had to start paying fifty pence for a fresh scallop! 'Ten Shillings!!!' the screamed.🤣 Shoulder of lamb is the best joint for me, absolutely love it. All looked good, and glad to see local mussels finally getting on the menu. They could've been way back, but there's a story behind that for another time. Good vlog mate and thanks.
  • I am going to put things into perspective. Gary, that cost 10 quid more than that Padstow garbage. All I can say is WOW.. I could taste every mouthful of that meal. I would have gone 10*. I hope your faith in Cornwall has been restored. Fantastic
  • Love your style , you seem like a really decent, likable bloke! Your honesty is refreshing. Keep it up!!!!😁
  • @roboliver9980
😂 I was preparing myself for a scare at the cost but honestly that was very good value for the quality and location. Thanks for trying it Gary as it’s difficult to decide if celeb locations are worth it (as confirmed by ricks chips!).

Gary, I absolutely love your reviews, you're honest and gracious but don't pull any punches, you're a delight to watch. . .please come to Wales 😀
  • @stevewilson6390
It must be good Gary, you was dancing in your seat describing the scallops, the mussels and the pie looked fantastic. Congratulations to the owners for an exemplary restaurant.
  • @darylheasman1
The bill is only frightening if the food was awful, to have 3 dishes that were the best you tasted, totally worth £46.60
  • @FaceBassFieldy
Brilliant! I’m off to Cornwall this weekend, I may have to pay it a visit! Thanks Gary
  • So pleased that you had a great experience.. The food looked lovely and i thoroughly enjoy the way you review the dishes. You are very detailed in your explanations of the ingredients and how they compliment each other. Your reviews encourage me to try different foods at different locations, keep up the good work.
  • @thaisstone5192
    (75) Wow. A "destination/celebration" restaurant. The type of place you put aside a money jar for so you are prepared for the bill. Place looked just BEAUTIFUL; thank you Gary for letting us tag along for another "dream feast" of a meal.
  • @Scitch-et4vk
You're the best food review channel around. Very genuine and decent
  • @johncecil7196
Never seen you so overcome, Gary, and rightly so. Pure taste, and quality. I thought you would cry tears of joy! Well done.
  • @anniejones1839
So refreshing to watch your reviews, you say it as it is, no over dramatic descriptions of the foods, just pure honesty.
