What I love most is that it’s eight minutes long and never manages to make me tired of it.

"I throw on my headphones and watch the video of Mateo singing to me. I see Althea Park in the distance, my place of great change. I return my attention to the video, his voice blasting in my ears. I cross the street without an arm to hold me back."
  • This song is in memory of Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens who died tragically in a plane crash. Holly was only married to this bride for six months before the crash and his wife suffered a miscarriage when she heard the news reports. A heart wrenching song when your understand the impact.

I knew this song existed and I liked it, but it never had an importance in my life until a few months ago. I was with all of my closest friends and we were on a lake, all spread out. Some of us were in the middle of the water on paddle boards, others were floating, or sitting on the dock. Nobody was really talking, we were just appreciating each other’s presence. But then all of a sudden this song comes on. We all look to each other and start screaming it together. We didn’t even have to say anything we all knew the lyrics. We sat there for 8 minutes singing/ screaming with each other. Even though we were far away. At the time it was just all fun but looking back, it was such an important moment in my life. Thank you for this song ❤️

I love how so many people can like this song for different reasons. Fans of the song years ago, people who saw a movie, people who read a book. It's a song for all generations.

Mateo and Rufus's story changed me, even though they're fictional, they made me realize that life isn't about waiting for the right chances and moments. Life is supposed to be enjoyed, not planned, not waited. Live your day, like it's the last.

my father used to sing this song while we are waiting for him cooking our dinner. sometimes, in the morning we will be waking up with this song playing and most of the time he will never forget to sing this song in karaoke. I dont have much good memories with my father since he was always out doing his job as a politician. But this memories will be forever with me. I can still remember how happy i was watching him and my mom dancing to this song. and as im growing up, this song. it gives me comfort and a little bit sting in my heart knowing that even after 14yrs, I cant still believe he is no longer with us. i have a lot of regrets. im sorry :( i love you pa!

The man says more in 8 mins than most "artists" say in a lifetime. Complete immortal masterpiece
  • "American Pie begins to play and the crowd cheers, like it's our own song, like they know who we are. Rufus squeezes my hand and lets go."
  • The senior and aging group grew up listening to this classic. Thanks for the classic hit sharing.

you know what hurts most reading the book? thinking they would die together in their sleep but no, someone left the safe island and someone was left behind experiencing the pain, crossing the street while listening and watching his loved one singing till his very last breath
  • This music will never be the same again for me. I thought this was some kind of joyful-story-driven music, but it turned out to be the opposite. Rest in paradise, to the three great musicians.
  • God bless USA. God bless South Korea. I actually loved this song when I was a high school student. Thanks for mister President of Korea Yoon Seok-Yeol, I came back to this song again.

"It's enough to make a grown man cry, and that's ok" - Me after finishing "They Both Die at the End"

I loved music as a young kid, I bought this single when i was 8 years old, I had a real crappy turntable and loved records. My Dad was a big Creedence Clearwater Revival fan, i still have his records 50 years later. Music can take you to another place in the universe, wether your playing it or listening to it.......Music is Magical

This song hit me so hard when it brought back memories of my sister who would sing this song when we were growing up. This song brought back her voice, laughter and how much she loved life. I live & miss you Judy.. Rest Easy My Big And Only Sister..
