Who doesn’t love a tiara! I was quite shocked when I found out that I had the option to wear one at my wedding when I became a Viscountess. But more on the history of the tiara I wore later on in this vlog.

Our daughter mowed our lawn as a nine year old so she could earn enough money to buy a tiara. Once she bought it, she even wore it the next time she mowed! She was an adorable child!

I love the fact that the family tiara has brooches and necklaces added on, it’s like a transformer tiara 😂

I love your podcasts. I’m not your typical viewer of your channel, I’m a big guy disabled veteran than would have never thought of watching this kind of shows. But your shows are informative and shows us from American point of view. I hope you continue this channel for years to come.
  • My mother in law gave me a ring that has been in the family for a few generations. She knows that I don’t wear jewelry but tradition is tradition and I cherish it. You know what , I should wear that ring more often.

Rule #7 exception: For the 1967 State Opening of Parliament, 17 year old Princess Anne worn the Cartier Halo tiara.

Bring a former professional Ballerina, I have worn tiaras ( rhinestone ones) since my teens for solos. On my 21st birthday, I was given a vintage one from an estate sale. The tiara stones were zircons ( not cz zirconias!) & White topaz stones set in sterling silver. As, I became a principal soloist, I was allowed to wear it, & it became even more dear to me. Many decades later, retired from active dancing & as an Artistic Director of my own troupe, how precious it is to me & I do wear it on occasions!

As a mere male, I found this interesting. Many of the rules are really traditions, and, as you pointed out with Margaret, they do get broken. An example is the tiara worn by Anne at her wedding, which had also been worn by her grandmother and others. In different circumstances, a bride was expected to wear her family tiara on the day, hence several brides will wear the same one, such as at Anne's first wedding. After the wedding she would then wear her husband's family tiara. As many of the brides marrying into the Royal Family are not aristocratic, they do not have family tiaras, so this is why the Queen loans them one. Another major event when tiaras will be seen is the State Opening of Parliament. Some commentators have not apparently understood that Julie married into the British aristocracy, and she is talking about the British Royal Family, so rules, or lack thereof, amongst European royal are totally irrelevant. I'm also unhappy to see that some people find it necessary to be rude to Julie in their comments. May I politely suggest that if you do not like this channel, then slip away quietly, those of us who are subscribed will happily cope without you and your aggression.

Rule #1 didn't apply to many royal ladies. In 1837 Victoria became Queen Regnant and was wearing tiaras before her 1840 marriage. Princess Elizabeth (later QEII) and' princesses from Norway, Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark were given 18th birthday tiaras long before they were wed. Princesses Anne and Margaret owned and wore tiara before their marriages. Current heiresses to the Belgian & Dutch thrones are unmarried young ladies who wore tiaras to the Jordan's recent royal wedding.
  • The family tiara is absolutely lovely. It was perfect with your wedding dress and actually fits your personality beautifully.
  • My favorite British royal tiara is the Queen Mary Lover's knot tiara (the diamond bows and the teardrop pearls) that Diana often wore.

As a commoner I knew almost none of these rules but the one that stuck with me was that once the tiara is loaned it’s for the entire life of that person! I never realized I never saw royals “mixing and matching” tiaras. Cool!

Julie, you make all of us Americans proud. I do love the Royals and their history, as you seem to. It's nice to hear someone that talks so highly of them and not bash them. Thank you for your channel.
  • @cindland
I love watching you because you’re so “plain folks ” and not acting like you are so privileged or above others, but down to earth and highlighting your responsibility to maintain the family land and legacy!
  • I'd love to see a photo of Luke's mother at her wedding wearing the family tiara. Love your vlogs. From Iowa with 💖.
  • First rule: It's usually on your wedding day, right. But there are exceptions when you are of royal blood. You are allowed to wear a tiara in that case from your 18th birthday onwards given the occasion! Best example: The recent 18th birthday celebrations of the Norwegian Princess Ingrid Alexandra. She (and other European fellow princesses like Elisabeth, Duchess of Brabant, or Catharina Amalia, The Princess of Orange) was wearing a tiara for that event. The reason why we have not seen Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie of York in a tiara before their respective weddings was simply lack of occasion.
  • My favorite tiara is from the Danish Royal Family, the Danish Ruby Tiara. My favorite British tiara is Greville Emerald Kokoshnik tiara that Princess Eugenie wore for her wedding.

I was the Vermont Maple Queen in 2001- I understand if you're envious. It was a very prestigious accomplishment within the Maple industry. The title came with a tiara and sash to wear during public appearances. Not everyone can look natural in a tiara, but it was exactly what was missing from my wardrobe. I now have a rather large tiara collection that I love dipping into as often as occasion permits.

I wore a tiara when I turn 15. When you turn 15 there is a celebration in the Hispanic culture which is called a Quintaniata. My tiara was made out of glass and only to be worn during church services. This has been very educational. 😄

Julie, I love that your mother in law offered the family tiara to you, and I love that you agreed to wear it. You obviously loved the tiara itself as well as the feeling that you were being welcomed and accepted into the family. But it's also a lovely gift that you gave to your new family in accepting the wearing of their family heirloom. What a wonderful story. My absolute favorite tiara of the Queen's is the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara. Its shape with all those extraordinary diamonds is, to me, a classic style of tiara for a princess and queen.

Sorry, I got this flash of a silly image….Lisa Douglas wearing all her diamond jewelry with a maribu feather embellished peignoir while doing her housework on “Green Acres.” Thank you for such a lovely look into your experiences. Your husband acquired a rare gem when you joined his family!
