/* ---- VIDEO INFORMATION ---- */

Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show, I'm your host Paul, and this video we're breaking down Invasion Of The Body Snatchers.

-

I think this is easily one of the best horrors ever made and even before seeing it it's a film I felt I knew everything about. That ending shot's one of the most iconic things in cinema and it's the build up to it that makes it even more impactful. It's something I think that Secret Invasion should've been and the tone and atmosphere are absolutely chilling.

Throughout this video we're gonna be breaking down the movie to talk about all the things that it does expertly. Whether it's the characters constantly staring at our heroes in the background or just the subtle things that it does with the garbage trucks. There's so much that we need to unpack and I can't wait talk about all the layers in it.

So come with me my last surviving Type H and let us get into Invasion Of The Body Snatchers!

Now at the time of it's release the movie was heavily criticised for being an unecessary remake. You have to remember kids this was back when Hollywood had new ideas and not everything was a sequel or reboot. Even back then sequels were seen as stupid because movies weren't thought of as being IP. Though I think that the film deserved to be made, it has to be said the originals great too. That was released in 1956 with both being based on the body snatchers book.

I watched alot of horror movies as a kid but this one disturbed me the most. It wasnt 'scary' in the violent blood and guts way. This movie tore at the emotions, and added a touch of hopelessness

Dude, bro.... When you said "within humans there exists a dichotomy where we're ritualistic but also rebellious" was so spot on.
  • @DanteYewToob
I love the goldblum line “how can you say that about a man like Kibner?!” “I’m not saying it about a man LIKE Kibner, I’m saying it ABOUT Kibner.” Hahaha I’m totally using that one sometime.

Philip Kaufman has to be one of the most underrated, great filmmakers. He directed this film, The Right Stuff, Henry &June, contributed the story for Raiders, worked on a cancelled script for the first Star Trek film, and wrote Outlaw Josey Wales.

The Homeless Man/Dog Scene was and is the scariest thing I've ever seen on film.
  • @jimmyolsenblues
One of the greatest movies ever made. Along with being some of the best hard scifi of our lives.
  • @toddkurzbard
Every time I think of this movie, it's that scene of crazy-eyed Donald Sutherland pointing at Her with the weird sound.
  • @ianbrewster8934
One of the best reboot / remakes ever. You're right this movie can be a stand-in for whatever fear of the other you see fit... It's a timeless movie.
  • I believe what's in the garbage trucks isn't just the pods. They also contain the withered bodies of the original people. Makes those garbage truck scenes more creepy.
  • @ExMachina70
My dad spared no expense with my sanity as he brought me to watch this movie in the drive-in when I was at the ripe age of 7 years old.
  • @danbeaudet6718
What really got under my skin, is the excellent sound FX from Ben Burtt! Mostly the pod transformation.
  • @evanlewis3328
Caught this for the first time on PBS of all places - early 90s. It scared the shit out of me. And I missed the first half hour - I was probably 11. It’s amazing and stands the test of time.
  • @mailelouie658
This movie, The Andromeda Strain and Soylent Green were great horror movies. I always considered The Andromeda Stain as horror. Thanks Paul! I heard the voice only one and lived it! I was waiting for the whole one to drop! Thanks!
  • @hardlux
Cartwright has been abused in film... They didn't tell her the ending here. She didn't know about the chest-burster in Alien. She had to throw up repeatedly in The Witches of Eastwick... Bloody hell. This was amazing as I watch this film every three months.
  • @leerhode1021
The 1978 version is the best. I saw it at the movie theater with a friend. It was so good we sat through it twice.
  • @DRVerges
Bruh, the JT Theory Time beat box cured me of depression.... Thanks bud😂
  • @RayvenTheNight
If you're ever up for it, would you consider doing "They Live"? I always felt it was under rated and one of my favorites.
  • @bryanheilman4376
One of my favorite remakes ever! One of the best horror movies!
