Enzo Maresca has some lessons to learn and FAST. Chelsea slump to their first defeat under the new manager against Celtic on the USA Tour 2024.

I give my live thoughts straight after the game and the highlights of what went wrong and how we can improve going forward.

In this video I analyse:
- Chelsea's defence and tactical set up which led to us conceeding
- Reece James as the inverted full back
- Romeo Lavia being completely isolated
- Players yet to return and their impact such as Palmer, Jackson, Cucurella and Caicedo
- The pressure that will be on Enzo ahead of our first Premier League game against Manchester City
- How the Guiu could be the answer for Chelsea's attack for years to come.
- Why Robert Sanchez must be dropped.... Immediately.

The one thing that bothers me is that Reece is one of our best players and we aren’t using him to his best attributes
  • @josephmwangi1398
Seems Maresca doesn't have a plan b All the players except Guiu were clueless

More than one thing can be true at the same time. The performance was truly execrable, especially the defense. It was completely unacceptable. But that does not mean Maresca is trash and the season is already lost. The number of people losing their minds after two pre-season matches is ridiculous. We are missing more than half of our projected starting 11. We’ve been training this new system for three weeks and all this travel to and around the US is not helping the team find adequate training time. We’ve been touched up by two settled sides that have been playing their styles for years. I’d have been surprised (pleasantly) if we had gotten better results.
  • Celtic have some brilliant players and a very good manager. Might be that.

There’s no tactical benefit in inverting Reece James. Reece is most effect creating overloading with overlapping or underlapping runs and putting in crosses from those areas. Playing him in midfield neutralises his effectiveness . We have specialists midfielders who play in front of the defenders and can do a better job than James in those positions. They are also not as effective as Reece James in attacking areas. I believe if Maresca plays a static back 3 with 2 static midfielders in Caicedo, Enzo or Lavia would create a solid defensive block

Why is everyone worried about pre-season game, we still have Enzo and Caicedo and Palmer to come in. Poch had a great preseason and look what happened at the start. This is science not art what Maresca is doing, the players need to learn the system.
  • The players are still sloppy, irresponsible, wasteful, lost and slow. It's not about the system.
  • @TheFootyCoach351
Maresca can’t wait for Cucurella to come back to save his job 😂
  • @kamilmeno1
Inverted Cucu from last season >>>>> Inverted James + justice for Trev

I have said this a million times, BADIASHILE is not good enough to play for Chelsea. How tf is he taking up a key role in this cfc team???! Guy should be sold, not worth to be on the bench.
  • Maresca should stop playing James and Gusto as inverted midfielders, it's not working and i don't think it will ever work
  • @andymcaleer4163
Was a wonderful show from Glasgow Celtic F.C hail hail c'mon the hoops
  • @MultiWow88
Fofana and badiashile it's just teribble. Last season shown badiashile not good enough and he still at the club.
  • Josh, I don't want to sound harsh, but why on Earth are you only noticing now what the issue necessarily must be with using people like Nkunku and Palmer in those "attacking number 8" slots? Such players are not midfielders. Mind you, it's not just you, it's pretty much all of the Chelsea content creator space that seems to be adamant in refusing to see the obvious. In Maresca's Leicester system, there is a grand total of three midfielder slots for the interior of the pitch. And we either use two of them on Palmer and Nkunku, leaving a midfield of one, or we play at least one of Palmer and Nkunku out of position. Meanwhile, the system uses two dedicated wingers, which is not an area where we have a competitive advantage versus the rest of the Premier League, and it doesn't do anything of note with right fullback, which is an area, where we do have a competitive advantage versus the rest of the Premier League. Edit: And I don't give a toss about the result, mind you. I don't care one bit about player execution at this stage, though it is worrying that we're still this bad at the system. What I care about is whether the coach plays a system that benefits the players or if he's come up with a system for his own benefit and now players have to be rammed into that system regardless of abilities. Because that's not really an improvement over Poch's lack of a coherent system, is it? What we need is synergy between tactics and players. Battering everything into a rough resemblance of alignment with a hammer isn't synergy.
  • @garymartin759
It is a game of football, why oh why are we overthinking this so much , let these very good footballers play there natural game
  • Pochettino dece!ved us with Pre-season matches...Enzo Maresca is not here to do that. Believe
  • @clanks5185
I’m not gonna lie I watched some Villarreal games last season (not just highlights)and Jorgensen is a much better shot stopper then Sanchez, his distribution is better but he can do a hospital pass every now and then
  • @pepsimac
It’s mad how you lot down there have this self entitlement and that the EPL is levels above teams like Celtic. Can you not just compliment Celtic on being the better team rather it being Chelsea being shit. I could see this coming a mile off
