And just to add a little from the momma's point of view. Surgery was 12 hours long and without surgery his spine would bend and crush his organs (mainly affecting the lungs). His incision was from the base of his neck all the way to bottom of spine. His hips were also fixed so he has bolts in them now as well. Ryan had to relearn how to swallow and it changed the anatomy of his neck so much that his swallow has never been the same.
