Both of my parents lived through Hitler! My father passed in '94. My mother is voting in '18! She's 97.

Democracy never falls with a loud bang but a whisper. Injustice prospers when good people do nothing

I'm watching this 1 year after it was recorded and it's still holds and it's still relevant.

"I'm not saying Trump is Hitler.... Hitler volunteered for the army." Tragic truth, in a perfectly crafted insult. Vote, damnit!

Thanks, Bill Maher -- we hear you, we need you, we love you. And we will vote on November 6.

As a 26 year old Canadian, someone down there vote for me

Your vote matters, that's why Republicans work so hard to take it away.
  • Mr. Maher's argument and appeal to vote are 100%, absolutely, totally on the nose. It's about the best speech I've ever heard encouraging our citizens to do their civic duty, whatever their age or background. I am also fed up with the Goodwins, Meachams, Beschlosses and others I otherwise respect acting like they are already looking back blithely at the Trump era a century from now and noting how we managed to get through this crisis too, though they have no idea as of yet how this crisis is going to turn out. To compare the Civil War or 9/11 or the Depression to the crisis caused by the ascendance of Pres. Trump to the highest level of power in the nation is ridiculous, isn't it? This is a different sort of crisis. Those had nothing to do with an attempt by a leader to destroy all opposition to himself. Did we succeed in overcoming the Depression automatically because we survived the Civil War? No. They required different kinds of solutions. There was no guarantee we'd find them. If you believe that bouncing back from a crisis is an automatic given regardless of the sort of crisis, that is like saying that fires caused by a match, gasoline or burning cooking oil are all the same and since you knew how to extinguish the cooking oil fire in your kitchen, you will surely succeed in preventing a truck carrying 9,000 gallons of gasoline from exploding once it catches on fire, though the two cannot be overcome in the same way. This is a new sort of political "fire" we're dealing with here, as Mr. Maher pointed out right at the beginning of his exhortation to vote. It is an attempt to fundamentally change the relationship between the government and the people and the president and the rest of the government apparatus. We citizens? We're all that's left to stop that fundamental change from happening, it seems, since the current Congress acts beholden to the single man in the Oval Office. It isn't going to be prevented because we believe we're "a shining city on a hill," if we take no action, action being showing the president and the minority who support the president how truly small a minority they are. They have the right to be heard, but not the right to take over.

I voted today & unexpectedly got a little emotional.

Holy shit, I've never seen that picture of the Nazi rally in Madison Square Garden. Sent a chill down my spine.

And we did come out and vote and it was a great night for Blue. Now, let's get the Senate and the WH back.

I don't know how he does it. Does he have help from writers? Whether he does or not, he's always dead on, spot on, time after time. And always, he restores sanity by restoring perspective and balance. Bill Maher is indispensable, irreplaceable for our democracy.
