Dude, the Giant Crimson Tomato seeds you sold me are working out great. I have 10 tomatoes on one plant right now. Thanks for bringing it back from extinction
  • I didn't realize you needed to add the germination and maturity dates together - very helpful tidbit I learned today, thank you!
  • @mbion001
I woke up this morning stressing about when I should start and whether I should start seeds inside or outside for my fall garden. As always you are right on point Luke!

I love farmers almanac. It also gives information on when to start seeds based on your location ❤
  • Excited about the fall/winter garden! I have these seedlings growing inside: Blue Curled Vates Kale, Evergreen Green Onions, Winter Savory, Sapporo Giant #4 Cabbage, Golden Acre Cabbage, Calabrese Broccoli, Snowball Cauliflower, Giant of Naples Parsley, & German Winter Thyme. This week, I will be direct-seeding White Egg Turnips, maybe also Purple Top Turnips; more Kale; Winter Density, Arctic King, Crisp Mint, & Marvel of Four Seasons Lettuces; Giant Winter Spinach; and Arugula. I'll be sowing Little Finger Carrots, Cherry Belle Radishes, Corn Salad, and Swiss Chard a little later. Using a hoop house and two cold frames, I'm hoping to create a space that will become a cold storage area for the hardier plants so we can have fresh food most or all of the winter. I didn't quite make my goal last year, so I hope to get farther this year.

Germination rate of your seeds is phenomenal. My 8 year old direct sowed a dozen cucumbers and he had tiny seedlings 3 days later. 100% germination! Definitely can't wait to try your cabbage and broccoli this fall.
  • Luke I love your channel & seeds!! Thanks for all the info you share, it’s greatly appreciated!!
  • my dad and me have a mini greenhouse outside. we have seeds growing for fall.
  • I am 300 mikes or so south of you. We have had an issue with heat and pests. Rabbits started feast on the two cabbages we had but any brassicas we try never survive. Even my beans and cukes are getting hit with leaf spot now. Every year. I spray and spray and do everything recommended but we are just more like the southern states than to upper Midwest here in south Ohio. I’m leaning more toward waiting to plant now every year and getting crops when all the disease and pests are gone and I can enjoy gardening again. We’ve got produce but it’s been a battle to get it. Biggest surprise was a pie pumpkin that volunteered from our compost addition to anew bed. After we killed the vine borers it has been spreading all over. Only issue with it is it sprout fruit but dies off before the flowers open. Could have had 25 pumpkins off this one plant but I’m happy to have 3 surviving.

Yes! Garden centres always close or sell out so early in my area. I actually purchase all of my compost and organic fertilizers in late July to ensure I have it available for winter soil amending. I guess it’s nice to have the compost break down even more ahead of time, but it’s a pain to store so many bags for that long! I had to search high and low for some last minute ProMix soil to seed start my fall plants. And I live in a big city!

I've been so disheartened by the weather and nonstop rain this Summer.... I was gonna skip the Fall garden this year. You just got me pumped up to plant a Fall garden. Gonna pick up some soil and get started.
  • I am so used to planting a one and done garden, but this year I've really explored the rotation of planting cool weather crops to work 2 plantings around the summer heat where things bolt.
  • Thanks to you Luke, Im growing everything you talked about (and more thanks to my pop up greenhouses.) You have made me an awesome grower. Thank you ❤
  • @ryanburnham8370
It is my second year in the garden. I just direct sowed lettuce, carrots and broccoli yesterday.
  • Second year for a fall garden. Most of the seeds were planted 2 weeks ago. Lots of squash on this go around as well as the broccolis, cabbages, sprouts and tons of greens. Plan to use small containers to continue growing lettuces and such indoors this winter. Successfully grew lettuce last year, but 5 gal buckets were a bit much. I am excited!!
  • Thank you for the reminder to get back out in my garden. I didn’t have a great yield this past couple of months, I’m fighting deers hanging in the backyard, birds and squirrels (I live in Northern California). I would love to see you do videos about ways to protect our crops from critters, if that’s a topic you cover (& apologies if I’ve missed it).
