Carduus nutans, Musk thistle's tender young plants(fresh from dormancy in the spring) are edible from the center. They don't look it, but you can eat them. The spines are more soft than they look. Bitter is often an acquired taste, but is at the heart of foraging wild plants. Especially leafy greens. And will cleanse your liver, digestive system, act as a general tonic for the body, and a source of nutrition. And raw fresh plants are full of life force.

  • I am so grateful and lucky to have grown up foraging in the woods. Just today I stopped and got some nettles from the side of a dirt road after it rained this morning. I think a lot of my health has come from the food I have eaten. You really are what you eat.

the root of this plant is edible, and delicious, my hometown people cook it with pork, very nutritious.
  • Thistle have deep tap roots and draw many nutrients deep into the soil.
  • Ouch, you have a tough mouth with those spines! You Da man! Just subscribed!

My daughter has gotten into foraging the last year or so. It's fun to eat things that require no energy (other than harvesting/foraging), no time spent in the garden, no hard earned money at the grocery store. One thing I think I've noticed is a lot of wild foods have basically 0 shelf life, and I think that may explain some of what became "food".

    Amazing...thank you for this info...appreciate🙏
  • Thanks a lot. Learn to cook green vegetables, I add oil, some grilled roughly chopped penut and salt, you must cut vegetables into very smaller pieces. you can add mashroom or boiled patoto or cheakpeas. Eat with bread or rice. Jay shree ram.

Wow! I have never done that or heard of it, so I must say I am impressed. I have stepped on them with bare feet, not fun! But, I did subscribe!

We used to eat 100s of different plants but now only have a select few in the store. Weeds especially dandy lions are good for you in every way. If you find a plant like the one in the video with a purple spikey flower looking thing its edible and tastes like an artichoke. Anything that doesn't fit the upper class of nice lawns is weeds. Mushrooms are we're it's at also if you want to heal yourself and mind look into lions mane mushroom, Chaga, turkey tail, agarikon, Reishi. Just to name a few. Get away from the stores and the consumer mentality. Connect with earth again.
