1 Year Time Lapse: DIY Restoration & Renovation Of Our Derelict Farmhouse & Homestead In Ireland

Published 2024-06-29
Our 1 Year Time lapse shows the progress we have made at our Irish farmhouse and homestead in the last 12 months and includes the run up to moving to Ireland from the UK right back to October 2022 and May 2023.

It was only when we were editing this video did we realise that for a couple of DIYers with no previous experience of house renovation or restoration that we have do so much. We lived in the tent for 3 months and then slept in the kitchen for a further 3 months.... but we are telling you too much already.

Watch and see for yourselves our progress, setbacks and milestones. The last year has been incredible, well.... just over a year.

Being complete beginners at DIY farmhouse renovation & restoration, really needing a "homesteading for beginners" guide and now starting amateur archaeology, we are taking it slowly, enjoying everything we do no matter how hard it is, to one day realise our dream of running a fully functioning homestead from our once derelict Irish Farmhouse.

I'm beyond impressed!! What a wonderful work of love and dedication. When watching this, I found myself huffing and puffing as you hammered, shoveled, raked.... This 77 year old was very impressed! Keep up the good work. I couldn't be more proud if you were my own children. Keep up the good work; it is well worth the effort.

It is absolutely amazing how much you have accomplished this past year. So much hard work and living in the midst of a major renovation while doing it. Thank you for allowing us to follow along as you fulfill your dreams. May God bless you, and may the sun shine warm upon you back, and May the road rise up to great you, and may your soul land in heaven and hour before the devil knows your dead.

Some wonderful generous souls in your life.....pull out couch, kitchen, large carpet.....the sweetness of these gestures is something that for me would be such an enriching part of the journey and as we all know, the journey is all....
  • Wow! Watching you do this much in a year is inspiring! Your dedication and hard work are making your dream of living the country life come true. Thanks for saving this old house and garden.
  • Well guys, tap each other on the shoulder, pinch yourself in the arms. This is reality! What you achieved in 1 year is truly amazing. And remember, in 15 years time you sit with a glass of wine by the logburner and say:"remember how we. ." And all will be finished, beautiful and well maintained. The energy change of the house, land and outbuildings has changed enormously. The house sighed under mal maintenance and is rescued, strong again. May your smile be from ear to ear. Thank you so much for sharing your lives with us.

Grand/Great Job! The Right People for the Right Place. ✨🍀✨
  • Wow! Watching that year back all in one go really makes you appreciate just how far you've come in that relatively short space of time! You should feel so incredibly proud of yourselves. Those of us who follow you and enjoy watching your progress, certainly feel proud of you and everything you've achieved so far. Here's to many more years and many more milestones 😊

Absolutely phenomenal!! What a superb way of showcasing your progress. I’m constantly in awe of you both, and your never ending energy. Thank you so much for sharing so much of your lives during this awesome project.

Amazing work guys. It's so heartwarming to see these old houses brought back to life. So much better for the heritage of the country than knocking and building new. I'm sure as you set in your kitchen with a cuppa you can appreciate the work you have put in and the history and character of the house. No better feeling! Keep up the good work.

Ben and Dawn you made your house a lovely warm home and that was sheer hard work. I love the banter between the 2 of you and the special effects and of course the music. Be mighty proud of yourselves where’s there’s a will there’s a way. 🙏
  • @scottsorby7966
When you look back (even just as a viewer) and see what you have both accomplished and also how your confidence has grown with a learning curve for new skills has been wonderful to watch. I just know that in the next 12 month you both will flourish, Ben will continue to grow to become an even more confident carpenter and start to trust in his own ability to turn out the work he sees in his mind, and Dawn who is already well on the road to becoming a skilled stone worker in her own right will also continue to grow in talent and confidence and will accomplish even more than she could ever have dream possible. We all know it wont be an easy journey for you folks, but I think we can all agree that it's a journey worth fighting through to see the end result of your dreams coming into reality and you can finaly say to yourselves, family, friends and visitors with pride.... "We did this!"
  • Its so very sad that someone's home was abandoned for so long...... May your hardwork and love breath fresh life into it.
  • @mnamber
I love this ❤❤ I cannot believe it’s been a year already, you guys have done a great job!! Here’s to a great rest of 2024! 🎉
  • @kaye-q1k
You two are a dynamo what you have accomplished in one year is amazing. This video brings back all you have done a good refresher for us and a good way for new comers to catch up. Hopefully they will then watch all your videos.

Golly I had forgotten how bad it was at the start. Inspiring effort, well done Ben and Dawn. ❤
  • @jillberry2802
I only started watching about 4 months or so ago and I just want to say you are both so brave taking on such a massive mess. I also think you lucked out on your neighbours, they must also be happy to see new blood in the area. Keep on keeping on.
  • @joybal3172
Seeing it all together in just 1yr you have achieved so much. You should be so proud of yourselves. Great to see thankyou
  • @maryallen6334
I have been watching for a fair while but did not realize just how much you have accomplished in one year. What a great achievement!!! You will have the most beautiful place in a few years.
