After several years out of the public eye, Michael Jackson was planning a huge comeback in a bid to reclaim his King of Pop status. First attempt being with the release of Thriller 25th Anniversary Special Edition, which ignited rumours of a long-awaited upcoming tour.

Although last minute cancellations and numeral no shows suggested that Michael Jackson was hesitant to enter the lime light once again.

Crazy how thriller was only 25 yrs old in 08 , 08 feels like yesterday and 20 yrs ago at the same time
  • @tylergoodman3560
This was the last full year for MJ. There were some highs and lows, but he took it in strides. He accomplished so much at 50; wish he was still here to do more. Great video from the detail. Long live the king of pop. 🎉

The thing about 2009 is that the first 6 months was pure bliss. The excitement with This Is It was going through the roof. It was happening…MJ in concert! Of course then it all came crashing and the end came:( So sad.

It's true that Michael Jackson had lung problems; he suffered from lupus, a condition known to cause inflammation in the lungs. The autopsy confirmed that both of his lungs were indeed inflamed. Additionally, the autopsy revealed that Michael had osteoarthritis in almost all of his joints. Personally, I believe this could be a result of the strict and constant dance practices he was forced to do by his father. Starting at just 5 years old, he had to work like an adult, which undoubtedly must have taken a toll on his delicate joints and bones. Michael experienced insomnia as a consequence of surgery. He also suffered from migraines after enduring second and third-degree burns from an accident. A subsequent surgery involved placing a balloon under his skull to provide more elasticity, but unfortunately, it left him with insomnia. We watched Michael to perform music and dance when he was just 5-7 years old until his passing. It's truly remarkable to witness the tremendous energy and dedication Michael invested in his development of his music and dance. He was an incredible talented artist. His songs, music, dance, and choreography were consistently different, fantastic created and really uniquely iconic. That's why MJ was loved by so many people. Love you always, Michael! ❤❤❤

I think 2003 scarred him like no other year, the poor sales of 'Invincible' (for MJ standards anyway) were being shoved in everyone's face to attempt to humiliate him at every opportunity. People had just had enough of this celebrity who reached unbelievable levels of fame in an era without social media, so in his comeback in 2001 people just piled the pressure onto his back. Then the accusations came through on top of all of these tabloids criticising him from every angle. His appearance continuously deteriorated throughout his 'Invincible' era as well: his nose almost collapsing on itself, his excessive makeup, his abhorrently bleached skin which just looked so exhausted and exploited with everything that was going on cosmetically at the time. He had to just relax for a moment, going through court case after case, and getting by with his medications which got out of control unfortunately. You can see that from 2004-2007 he really just took a break from the public. And thereby when he returned to the public eye in 2007 and 2008, people actually realised how different the world was without Michael and embraced the legend for who he was in his glory days. He seemed to care to a lesser extent about what anyone was saying and the public themselves seemed to give him a break for once in his post 'Dangerous' era where is seems everyone had something to say about the man who dominated the mainstream for 20 years - he had seen everything at this point and was just exhausted in general. Although for the last few years of his life, I think the lack of public appearances, attempts to look more normal, and the reduction in the backlash from the public worked wonders. But the scarring from the past, notably 2003 and the entire post 'Dangerous' era, had ultimately exhausted the man to his core and the medications at this point were completely out of control which is what lead to his untimely death. It seemed like things were just about to turn around with the 'This is It' tour, as the world cared less about a man who was all of the fuss for too many years at the cost of his own mental health and well-being. The world and the tabloids in particular had to put their focus on others for once, and that worked wonders in my eyes. Jackson came across as sort of a badly damaged war veteran rather than someone who was actively fighting the war, the stains from the accusations never faded, but people at least gave the time of day to respect the legend for who he was and thats why these were some of the best years since 1997 for Michael in my opinion. The world finally realised that actually the man they wanted to get rid of all to quickly with the allegations, the speculation about plastic surgery, the speculations behind the drugs, and the lack of dominance in the music mainstream, was actually fading naturally as a result of all of those things and the last years of his life were compiled of so many people in awe of him and actually just observing his status before it all came to a crashing end. What a sad life. I chose to focus on 1983 to 1987 in his career. That's the Michael I want to remember - that was the brand, the icon the legend. The music was at its best and even though he suffered from the a bit of the stardom with minimal surgery, the vilitago and lupus of course - he was still getting by as a legend and his image will never be forgotten: especially in that era as this was before any allegations or any real notice of the deteriorating soul within which was only accentuated when people wanted to get rid of him out of jealousy and tiredness of this invincible and inconceivable celebrity that never seemed to fade.

  • Before I hit play. A moment of silence for the fact this will be the second to last Year In Review for Michael’s precious life 😢
  • Speaking of Neverland, I visited there this year (2023) for the first time. It has been my dream and it was an ethereal experience. I felt like I was floating on clouds. The man I have admired and studied for so long lived there. I can’t believe I was in front of his house. It was so peaceful. I can’t wait to visit again ❤
