The guillotine was developed during a time when capital punishment was widely accepted, and execution methods were often cruel and inhumane. Compared to methods like burning at the stake, hanging, and drawing and quartering, the guillotine was seen as a more humane way to execute people

One note, for most Europeans Siberia was considered from Ural mountains till the end of Russia cause it was equally cold harsh and brutal. Everybody sent there already knew they will slowly die there...
  • Moral := If you ever time travel and go to the middle ages, ... either be literally invisible or avoid civilization at all costs, otherwise you may find yourself in trouble

In South African townships necklacing is still a thing although not as prevalent. Since our police are not reliable and as South Africans we have a strong sense of community, whenever there's been a crime committed especially if it's atrocious the community will often best the criminal event to death in some occasions as form of mob justice
  • I think Crucifixion existed well before Roman times. King David of Judea had the grandsons of former King Saul Crucified just so they wouldn't rise in rebellion against him.

The second samurai was usually a friend of the condemned there to perform a mercy killing after he had "proved himself" with the self disemboweling.

7:19 It's not vigilante justice; it's vigilante brutality. There's no aspect of this torture that could be construed as justice

While the Romans dished out lots of crucifixion, they did not invent it. The Persians should get credit for that.

I'd argue the 40+ years for forced subservience to a paycheck just to be told "your SSI is empty and we own you for 20+ more" is the worst punishment.
  • Everyone acts like samurais did seppuku for honour but really it was to avoid the torture. Learn something new every day 😂
