Simple Strip HST block quilt using 2 1/2 inch STRIPS! 8th in our series to use leftover strips!

Published 2024-01-17
Eighth project in a series using 2 1/2 inch strips to make scrappy quilts! This pattern was designed for a jelly roll but leftover 2 1/2 inch strips will work just as easily!

This pattern does call for some additional fabric for the background. It can be just one fabric or a variety of fabrics that are the same color. Look for a tone on tone or small volume print to let the strips be the star of the quilt. I needed 1 1/3 yard for the baby quilt you will see in the video. The pattern calls for 2 1/4 yard of white fabric (along with the jelly roll) to make a 66 1/2 inch by 66 1/2 inch quilt top. This pattern is easy to enlarge or make smaller! I do mention some alternate color way ideas in the video.

Here is the link to the pattern used in the video, "Let's Dance" by Zen Chic. Both links are the same exact pattern. The only difference is the colors used on the cover.

Stay to the end to see finished quilt which includes the pieced binding and minky backing!
There is also an update on the 2 1/2 inch scrap bucket situation and how that is looking!

I've challenged myself to do a new project each month using only 2 1/2 inch strips from my scrap buckets. I have always saved leftover strips from projects and cut up small leftover fabric from yardage into 2 1/2 inch strips and put them in a bucket for some "future" project . The future is now! It is time to tame the scrap bucket and use up these strips. I'll always have a scrap bucket of strips because I'm constantly adding to it but I want to get it down to just ONE bucket instead of three...make that seven after the "GREAT SORTING"! This series will last until I'm down to one bucket. Let's be honest, it will take at least 2 years to use up enough strips to make a difference! So join me on this project adventure to use up fabric scraps!

I appreciate your lack of music and not trying to fill spaces with talking. Nice tutorial!

I can't wait to see what you do with the dark strips on the top of that bucket. (This is "the best" quilting series on YouTube.)

I also appreciated your lack of music...I find music distracting In a tutorial. I enjoyed your instruction. Th anx!

I am enthralled with this series! It just keeps getting better. When you use up all these strips, unlike you, I am really going to miss this amazing flow of 2 1/2” scrap strip ideas. Thank you so much for sharing all these ideas!
