I can imagine a New Yorker somewhere, listening to quiet suburban soundscapes, while I listen to this.
  • I remember going to New York when I was 12 we were there for a whole weekend. The best part of the trip was waiting till everyone fell asleep and I would go to the bathroom, open the window, and hear the city awake. Best feeling ever

What I love about this is that it’s not looped - it’s all real time. You get to see and hear everything unfolding below. Most videos here are usually looped so it takes away the immersion but this? Three hours of uniqueness? Man I am IN LOVE. I don’t live in NYC, but I do hope I get to visit there someday!

hot summer nights.. mid July when you and i were forever wild the crazy days city lights… The way you'd play with me like a child

I always thought the noises were exaggerated in shows and movies, but dang it’s really like that.

Native New Yorker here, and I have to listen to this when traveling. I was in South Carolina and it was so quiet that I thought something horrible happened.

man, i'm so city-sick. i miss New York so much. i miss walking around The Village, rushing to get on the train/bus and my MetroCard not working, getting really good bagels in Bay Ridge, petting a bunch of dogs, not being able to sit down and eat on a park bench because of pigeons, having to tell 7 different creepy guys that i don't want to buy their pirated films, riding in car service during the rain, meeting new people everyday, spraying 99 cent silly string off of my grandma's fire escape, getting stuck in elevators, stepping in mushy snow during the winter, and my absolute favorite... walking around the city. walking around New York City in the nighttime is so very different than the daytime. i know everyone says "the nighttime is when everything comes alive," but New York is already so alive, i mean, just by looking out your window (depending on your view) you can tell: the lights; the people; the cars; the birds; the buses; the trees; the buildings; all of it is already so alive. but nighttime, now nighttime hits differently. that's when all of the lights are brighter than they normally are; the people are more dressed up or just leaving work; the birds are hovering over people who are eating; the buses have more people on them; the trees are sometimes lit up because they hang sting lights around them, so they light up during the night; the building lights are on and people are just getting home; New York is just such a unique place to live because sometimes you never know what might happen.

How annoying it is when you’re in the city, but how comforting it is when you’re away..
  • See now this is relaxing when you’re on like the 15th floor, but my ass on the 3rd floor hears full blown convos and screaming constantly

Incredibly disappointed at the lack middle-aged Italian guys screaming at each other.
  • @Dreamlless
I listen to this when I go to bed but before I do I always play the part at 1:01:04. Makes my night every time.
  • miss this feeling of waking up and you got 2 small Italian men arguing who's sausage is better
  • Whenever I'm in Manhattan, I sleep with the window open. I find the ambient noise so relaxing and refreshing, and I feel connected to the city while otherwise isolated in my modest hotel room. I once returned to my room to find a bird in it. Watching the hotel staff try to catch it with a bed sheet was quite comical.

I grew up in Manhattan and I haven't been there in ages. The noises were my favorite part of the city even when people would yell ahah, so glad I found this.
