  • Thanks for watching How to Stop Puppy Barking - Training Tips! Based on what you learned in the video, tell me one reason why you think your dog may be barking.
  • I got a puppy a week ago and even though I researched for A YEAR beforehand, I was not prepared for how exhausting he would be. Two days ago he started barking, mostly for attention I think. Like when I'm using the bathroom?? It's so hard to tell whether he genuinely needs something like go potty or is just looking for attention. I know the best thing to do is ignore him but I live in an apartment building, so the fact that a bunch of neighbors are being disturbed just adds to the stress. I'm gonna try to power through with your tips!

Thank you for your advice and channel. Sorry for the novel here! I have owned many puppies/ dogs and took them all to professional group training classes. My new puppy starts one on Sunday Dads Day. I have a new puppy that is 13 weeks old, and I have had her only two weeks. She is a rat terrier which have a huge personality and are very active, and some say are barkers. That hasn’t been my experience. I have owned two rat terriers puppies and a jack russell puppy, all two years apart at the same time. Ok this rat terrier is definitely MORE vocal than all my other dogs combined. She barks for attention. She barks when she drops her toy and wants it to jump back up to her. she barks at me when I eat my meals, and wants my food instead of hers. She barks for me to play, non stop. She does not bark at people. She doesn’t bark at people ringing at the door. She doesn’t bark at other animals, cats ducks birds or turtles out at the ponds or woods. I walk her six times a day, even though its summer blistering heat in FL which is demanding since I work full time! I even take her to pee the 14 times a day she asks to go out by sitting in front of the door. she is not barking at frightening things, she is barking to demand something from me. 😩 I stop her by playing if I can but cant play during the 8 hours I am supposed to work even though I try. she is super smart, was potty trained on day 2 and crate trained to go on her own by day 3. We started sit, down, and drop it. She is easily trainable because she is food motivated. I live alone and work at home and thought I have the time and energy for her, but maybe was dumb idea to pick a puppy. What can I do to stop her from barking at me when I am eating. I have not had a hot meal in weeks now that she needs so much attention. I tucker her out and put her in crate while I cook my dinner but maybe she needs to stay in there until I finish eating. I imagine she had her mom and siblings to play with all day and she misses them. 😔

Great information!!! I think 🤔I may have got a bit more out of this if you were to provide an example of each situation? Cheers 👍

I woul like to thank you for your professional and inspiring videos, I learn a lot from you! I have a 3 month old labrador puppy, and I am not sure yet what the actual cause of the barking is, but everytime I have my phone in my hand and talk with someone or take a picture or video from him, after a while, he gets excited and starts to bark or "attack" the phone. I guess he needs attention or is scared of the phone. What do you think? What would be the correct behavior from my side to avoid this phenomenon?

This is such a great video, I’m so glad I found your channel! I’m getting a puppy in 3 weeks and we share a privacy fence with our neighbor who has 2 very aggressive barking dogs, and I really don’t want my puppy to become like them! Do you have any videos on how to protect your puppy from bad influences? lol
  • @connortplant
Ugh.... I definitely did EXACTLY the "bark - quiet - treat" mistake. Thanks.

My 7-month old mini poodle puppy barks and whines when one of us goes upstairs (he's confined to the main floor of our house). He also barks/whines when in his ex-pen or in his car crate. He has done this since he was w to 4 months old. I interpret his barking as "attention" barking and expressing unhappiness at not being with us. We have simply ignored him, but the behavior hasn't improved much. Only recently he has started coming up to one of us and barking when he's bored. We usually take him outside to his potty area just in case.

Great video.. I adopted 2 labradoodles from the same litter. They are 13 weeks and 2 days old today. The girl is a barker. She barks the whole time I take her brother out for a walk. Not sure if it’s the right diagnosis but I think it’s separation and attention issue barking. I just started to give her a treat after 3 seconds of quiet and then say quiet and praise her. I hope this works.
  • Hello, thanks for the great video. Do you have a video that addresses a puppy barking at another dog. I have an 8 week old puppy and an 11 year old dog. The puppy will bark at the older dog to try and entice play (older dog generally ignores her). It gets quite loud and frequent, I'm wondering how to manage that other than making my older dog go sit in her bed to calm the pup. Many thanks!

Great information. Just an acoustical suggestion....turn down the background "music" or eliminate it all together. It becomes a distraction.

I recently got a one year old Chiweenie who is wonderful! However, we live in an apartment building and she barks at everything. When I take her for walks she doesn't bark at anyone, not even dogs! But as soon as we get back to the building she barks at ever person, dog, and sound. It can be so bad she can't even hear me calling her to stop. Why does she only bark at the building and in my apartment? How to I train her to stop?
  • @ChorkieDad
People wearing baseball caps, sometimes her reflection in glass (fireplace, mirrors, etc.), and sometimes people on TV freak her out! Thanks!
