It's funny how in other shows, all the drama, crying and character angst doesn't get to me, but Mob telling Reigen that he's a good man makes my eyes water. Sometimes less is more.

the turnshot between young mob being saved by reigen to reigen being saved by mob makes me cry, poetic cinema!!!!

This was it. This was the point when Mob Psycho easily became a 10/10.
  • me: come on you can do this you're a grown ass man mob: your a good person me: cries uncontrollably

Me after season 1: "Yeah it's kinda cool and funny anime." Me after half of season 2: "...Holy crap this is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen!"
  • Tbh, the part that hits me the most is the last line of this scene with mob wishing Reigen a happy birthday. Aside from his mom, Mob was the only one that was truly always there for him and didn't need to be reminded of Reigen's bday
  • If you struggle with self-worth and depression, having someone tell you honestly you're a good person despite every failure is so validating. This scene moves me every time.

Mob is already the most powerful esper in the world, he doesn't need a master who can teach him about physic powers, he needs a master that can teach him how to be human, and that's what Reigen is. That's the beauty of Mob Psycho, Mob's insanely strong powers a useless for getting him what he wants, the girl that he loves, friends, and a normal life. Reigen brings that normalcy and gave Mob his first true friendship, as he grows on a personal level under his wing, Mob will likely come to acquire the final thing which he desires. I think that many people miss the role that Tsubomi plays in all of this. She's almost always there, looking on from a distance and smiling as she sees Mob grow. She always acts unimpressed or uncaring about his powers because she wants him to gain confidence in himself for who he is and not for his powers. That's the crux of the show, that ones worth comes not from their strength or natural born gifts, but from their efforts to better themselves.
  • episode 6: friendship ended with reigen, now the talking fart is my new best friend episode 7: friendship regain with reigen, now reigen and talking fart both are my best friends

I think this will always be one of the most well-written character arcs between any two protagonists. The build up for Reigen's guilt compounding on the fact that in the moment when Mob says he always knew what Reigen really was, he was probably feeling almost every negative emotion you could think of. The guilt from holding Mob back and using him, the anger from his thought that Mob pitied him, the rise and fall of his success, and the sadness that was always present for him. And the scene was set up in such a brilliant way where you might think Mob is going to shatter Reigen's emotions right then and there but then they hit you with that callback to Reigen telling Mob that kindness was key and that Mob would need to become a good person with or without his psychic powers. Frankly, I don't know how anyone who understands this scene and these two characters could not tear up a bit at it. I've seen a lot of media and read a lot of stories but this dynamic was done so well it still gets me over a year after watching it. ONE and Bones did such an incredible job with this, it baffles me that it's not one of the most popular anime out there.

It makes me physically hurt to see how underrated Mob Psycho is
  • @ZenakuShinigami
How is it this season is exponentially better than the first and the first was already a masterpiece?
  • @95metallicafan
I love how even Dimple was looking a bit tense when Mob said he knew about Reigen.

Looking back at season 1 it starts seeming like Mob actually did know the entire time that Reigen did not have any powers, a lot of his dialogue when rewatching seem to be some subtle way of Mob making jokes at his master, but it comes of as him just being clueless due to his suppressed emotions. Giving the impression that he stayed around him due to him genuinely being a good person trying to help Mob and was being taught life lessons, probably also just to have a friend of sorts. I like to think the whole split off in season 2 is a lot of Mob learning that he does not in fact need Reigen anymore to emotionally support him, but instead realizing that perhaps Reigen needs him as well. A nice way of showing Mob growing up and becoming the kind person Reigen told him to be.

I love the small animation of Reigen holding tears back. It's subtle, and shows his character a lot. It's absolutely beautiful.
  • @cvox607
what did we do to deserve mob 100 ??
  • @ryogofujitani
0:30 "Hey...Do you know" Reigen sounds so guilty and fragile, the VA is just ON POINT. Gosh this episode hits hard.
  • @Jampolo_OG
Reigen's greatest regret was not becoming a fraud It was disappointing Mob Except Mob wasn't disappointed, because Reigen excelled where it mattered
  • This is my favorite scene from any anime in existence, honestly. It's so genuine and wholesome, I love it so much.
