Reuploaded due to my silly lockdown brain making a mistake, then my lazy lockdown ears not hearing it....

Ever heard someone tell you their engine has a "Mezger" in it? I'm sure you have if you've been around 911 circles - but what does it actually mean? Let's have a look.

R.I.P. Mr Mezger. Thanks for all the wonderful sounding six's we hear today

I'm rebuilding one now. Amazing design. Strong as hell with 8 bearings for only 6 cylinders with precision dry sump oiling. Love working with it.

One of the all time great engines. Really miss my 996GT3 I had for 12 years.

917s....the holy grail of race cars. Love the exhaust notes at the start of the video. Nothing sounds like a Porsche.
  • Jay, this shows a lot of research put into a couple minutes video. Good job man, and thanks. Keep doing a good job. :)

Let's not forget the last version of the gen 1 turbo 997 mezger derived engine was actually also used in the 997.2 3.6 GT2 RS with 620 Bhp and the most power full road going Porsche at the time.

During the 1970 LeMans cheese shortage the Porsche team, even the tea ladies, were involved in hand producing Mezger cheese. This herculean effort propelled Mezger cheese into the hearts of the French earning them valuable contracts once French cheese production restarted following the shortage.
