The First Omen Director Interview: Making a Horror Movie with Disney

2024-04-04に共有
Every first feature is a massive challenge and monumental achievement, but a feature directorial debut doesn’t get much bigger than making a new The Omen movie with a company like 20th Century Studios at your back. After directing episodes of Channel Zero, Legion, Briarpatch and Brand New Cherry Flavor, that’s the opportunity first-time feature filmmaker Arkasha Stevenson scored.

The First Omen is a prequel to the 1976 Richard Donner-directed classic. It introduces Nell Tiger Free as Margaret, a young American novitiate who goes to Rome to work at an orphanage before taking the veil. She’s thrilled to start heading down this new path, convinced it’s her destiny, but soon comes to realize she’s right smack in the middle of an extremely dark and sinister conspiracy, one that causes her to question her faith.

In celebration of The First Omen’s April 5th release, Stevenson joined me for an extended interview to recap her journey from studying photojournalism to contributing to one of the most legendary horror film franchises of all time.

Just saw this movie tonight. I'm definitely following this director from now on.
  • Just saw the film- one of the best horrors I've seen in some time, and her direction was perfect. The suspense and atmosphere were top notch, and all her directorial choices served the story perfectly. Very mature, effective filmmaking. I'm officially a fan, and will be looking forward to whatever she does next.

Arkasha Stevenson is AMAZING! Definitely a director on the rise to greatness. Spectacular interview! Thank you! 🙏
  • Having seen the movie and really liking it, I thought it was very eel made, probably one of the best horror prequels I think I’ve ever seen in fact, this interview was my first time being introduced to Arkasha and I must say she comes across as a lovely person, very sweet and ultra talented. Can’t wait to see more of her work and hopefully a sequel to The First Omen
  • Arkasha you have made an amazing first feature that took me back to the terror and dread I felt as a child watching the first donner Omen movie. Your film is beautiful, gnarly, unhygienic and terrifying. I can pay you no higher compliment ❤️
  • there was a scene,I think she did a tribute to Possession 1981❤

Arkasha's very sweet and unassuming in interviews but such an amazing talent. Can't wait to see what's next from her.

How was this her first movie. So stylish, so creepy & so good!
  • Now i’m thinking there should be a spin off from “The Omen” franchise. a series called “The Chronicles of Buganhagen” it would show him as a young man just starting out in the priesthood then eventually he would notice and become experienced with demon possession and exorcism and later become an exorcist. He always seemed like a mysterious interesting charecter to me. I’d like to see a series about him.

  • Since she mentions "Wild At Heart" as an inspiration to be a filmmaker at least she has great taste! Awesome interview.
  • Care Bears always freaked me out as well as kid…. but this was back in the 80’s like the LAND WITHOUT FEELINGS!
  • Ladies and gentlemens this is one of the best prequels ever made

I watched the FIRST Omen in yesterday and he gave me a lot of 🎥Rosemary's Baby vibes... Like it was almost paying homage to that movie.
