I think this was the first episode that told the audience, "Okay... there are only so many realistic, or even semi-realistic, mysteries we can write. Every once in a while, we're going to have a completely bonkers episode. Got it? Sorted."

If the duel occurred forty years ago, when Isabelle and her two suitors were obviously in their early twenties at most, that would mean they're now just over sixty. Christian and Isabelle are a good deal older than that.
