I BUILT THE ULTIMATE XBOX TO CELEBRATE ITS 20th ANNIVERSARY | MakeMHz HDMI + SSD + OpenXenium +MORE!

In today’s episode of Retro Renew, I celebrated the XBOX’s 20th Anniversary by building my own Ultimate OG XBOX! I go all out and upgrade the Harddrive to a SSD, replace the fan with an ulta silent one, install the OpenXensium Mod Chip and most importantly, I install the amazing MakeMHz HD+ HDMI mod! This is truly the ultimate Xbox worthy of the amazing 20 years it’s been with us!

I've got 3 of these bad boys lying around (was big into Halo lan parties) I didn't even know they had an HDMI mod kit! After getting My N64 modded with HDMI I'm so modding my Xboxes.
  • @b1llygo4t
I worked at a used game store that did console repairs. One day corporate called and told me to throw away our parts system over stock. I called my mom and loaded up some 30 broken xboxes in her minivan. By the time I was off work she had already tought herself how to mod one. I put myself through a year of college by s3lling pot and modding and selling xboxes

Tip: you can avoid scraping the heatsinks entirely by spraying Goo-Gone onto the black thermal compound and letting it sit for a few minutes, then a q-tip/cotton pad should get it right off! Also, a normal hair dryer can heat the GPU heatsink enough for it to come off.
  • @MegaManNeo
The fact that the XBOX is so simple to mod makes it even more fun I suppose. Maybe I'll buy one eventually, pre modded.
  • @ProlMLGJoe
Imagine being an OG Xbox player who time travelled to 2023, you'd be like "holy shit, this is what an Xbox looks like?". Though you'd be disappointed with how gaming is nowadays.
  • @redherring3253
Excellent video! Also this Redherring32 guy sounds like a real piece of work, but I'm sure he was happy to help.
  • @Hyokkuda
This is literally the best soldering skills I have ever seen in a video. It's so tiny and accurate! You are really something else! I have often seen professionals doing a "blob" nasty job. It just hurts to watch, while yours is just sooooo satisfying! I could watch you do that for an hour. :P
  • @ncc74656m
One more tip: If you haven't done so yet, make sure to also remove the clock capacitor and clean up any spilled capacitor leakage.
  • @nubatman
This is by far more than I will do to my systems. I did the softmod approach with a sata drive replacement years ago. Took it a step further and slimmed the casing down. Then went an additional route of removing the disc drive minus its motherboard. At the time SSD was impractical for the mod based on cost. And I feel the HDMI out would bring my system more play time (haven't used mine in 4 years). Excellent job as usual Tito.
  • @madcat4563
This was fun to watch. You can really see the big temperature difference with the new thermalpaste (and fan). Still wish we got OG Xboxes where I live. 😑
  • @juliomauro_
Forza was just amazing! Thanks for sharing this project.
  • @efrempannell
As a Day one OG Xbox owner, to see those mods look super easy compared to the 20+ soldering job done to one of the OG xbox in my collection. Time to find a 1.6 and get to modding!!!
  • @BretMix
I know this is two years old, but i just had to comment... What a well-put-together, easy to understand piece of information it is! Production is also top-notch. I've seen some videos like this before, but this one absolutely takes the crown. Subbed!
  • @AaronParkerFTW
Great project. Modding the OG Xbox is a lot of fun and there is still a pretty active community doing it even today
  • To anyone watching this currently: You do not have to FTP your bios to the console. As soon as the modchip boots it hosts an interface you can access by entering your xbox's IP address into your browser. You can flash it right from your computer in seconds!
  • @SaarN1337
Love seeing how love is still given to the console of my childhood. Much respect to the SNES, PS1 and PS2, but.. the splash screen of Halo 1 can make me shed a tear
  • @W1ldTangent
One of my biggest moving regrets was leaving behind my modded Xbox with a transparent badge, blue CCFL light inside and an 80mm fan replacing the original (required some cutting of the frame to fit, but fit it did).
  • @HSchristian117
Despite the fact I COULD NEVER be able to do this to my Xbox, I watched the whole video and simply loved it Just wow 💚
  • @ianbrisland1982
Excellent video, I had mine in storage for nearly 15 years, got the xbox out and it started up fine!!
