When a fabled motorsport event and one of the greatest car marques meet, special things happen. At Le Mans, Porsche has created moments that will last forever. In the second of six stories from Porsche Museum, as told by real legends, we head to 1971. This was the year that the Porsche 917 KH (kurzheck or ‘short-tail’) roared to a notable victory.

Timo Bernhard, Le Mans winner and endurance champion, gets the lowdown on a remarkable racing car with Norbert Singer, who served as Porsche race engineer from 1969 to 2004. Norbert tells us how Porsche engineering ingenuity helped the 917 KH, arguably the greatest Porsche racing car ever, break a landmark record that lasted for nearly four decades.

NO car in this universe reach the beauty of the 917 K. This car is timeless.

The greatest generation of engineers, Norbert Singer, Hans Mezger, who designed and built the greatest car ever made which was driven by the greatest drivers, Dr. Helmut Marko and Jonkheer Gijs van Lennep who set a distance record in it in 1971 which stood for over four decades. The great Pedro Rodriguez won the 1970 Brands Hatch 1000km by an astonishing five laps in a 917K despite being penalised by one lap for missing a yellow flag during the race.

Norbert Singer, one of Porsche's biological memories at Le Mans. What a treat to listen to him talk about this wonderful adventure, I never tire of it.
