With FURIOSA upon us, I decided to revisit the previous Mad Max movies and see how they all fit together! For reference, I used the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel comic that ties Fury Road in with the events of the first three movies. In this video, I present the timeline uninterrupted then at the end, I chime in with some thoughts on the timeline inconsistencies / how well things really fit together.

0:00 Intro
0:39 MAD MAX
6:54 Nux and Immortan Joe - Part 1 (Comic)
9:34 MAD MAX 2 (The Road Warrior)

16:59 MAD MAX BEYOND THUNDERDOME
24:23 Max (Comic)

  • One of my favorite Theories for MAD MAX is that Max's irradiation caused his cells to reach near perfect Homeostasis making him Biologically Immortal letting him be 80, 90, or even a Hundred Years old by the time of Furry Road and I absolutely love it, it gives him FAR more time to fester on his anger and hate, letting him be far more insane or MAD then one would be from such relatively short times in the Wastes.

DO NOT, MY FRIENDS, BECOME ADDICTED TO TIMELINE RECAPS—FOR IT WILL TAKE HOLD OF YOU, AND YOU WILL RESENT ITS ABSENCE

Mannnnn this is the first time I’m truly learning the lore of the mad max saga. This is a brilliant world building rich with theology, sociology, and psychology. Wow wow wow
  • Miller said there is no timeline. He wanted max to be a legend, a folk tale you tell around a fire. Those stories never have a time line just a tale that captures the imagination.
  • “The chain on those cuffs is made of high tensile steel, it’ll take ya 10 minutes to hack through it with this,” holds up hacksaw; “now if you’re lucky you can hack through your ankle in 5 minutes.” James Wan credits this as the inspiration for the iconic scene in Saw.

The Road Warrior, an early 80's movie with a villain (Wez) having a twink boyfriend, was ahead of its time.
  • Not to be an ass, but you left out the most important part of The Road Warrior (MM2) - the people didn't follow the tanker. Only a fighting force. The rest of the people went the other way ... with a bus ... which is where they hid the actual gasoline. The tanker was loaded with sand. It was a decoy. Edit: the video still was great - I gave it a thumbs up.

There was a theory that Hardy's Max was the Feral Child, I believe -- who simply took on the name & 'mission' of someone he looked up to, who was already semi-legendary when the Child was young- I wasn't too sure how that stacked up against what would come with Fury Road, & now the semi-prequel of Furiosa...

What a day. What a lovely day... for a new OneTake video!
  • i always assumed that the nuclear war took place between the 1st, and 2nd film. So, by the time we meet Max, the Gryo Captain, Papagllo, the global conflict, had already occurred. In the Road Warrior, there are a few oblique references to this. Humongous says, we all lost someone we loved, which I took to be a reference to the global war and its effects. No one in the refinery for example, ever mentions any kind of organized, civil government or society that might still exist or be functioning either in Aus, or anywhere else. In the RW, we can we safely assume that what gov't that still existed in Mad Max falls between the events of MM and the RW and AS a result, of either a limited, or full nuclear war. In Beyond Thunderdome we see fallout from that event is still easily detectable in groundwater. The timeline could look like any of these: M.Max > Road Warrior > Global Nuclear War > Thunderdome or M.Max > Limited Nuclear War > Road Warrior > Global Nuclear War > Thunderdome or M.Max > Global Nuclear War > Road Warrior > Thunderdome

I figured in the mad max story line movie was someone else's point of view of max like the helicopter pilot or bardertown master even the lost boy kids. I say that only because max never ends his own story its always someone else remembering him.

Very good video, but I miss the Mad Max game (2015) which is not just a good Mad Max product, it's one of the best open-world games of all time. I am so sad it never got the recognition it deserves. It needs a sequel! I would play it anyday!

Just watching this to help me mentally prepare for the coming bad times.
  • @Joe-eg7ml
The Max in Fury Road is the feral boy in Mad max 2. It's indicated by the music box, boomerang, and his lack of speech and more grunts. I'm assuming he named himself after his hero
