i really like this "series" of you coaching soda. im looking forward to his match with tyler 1 and i presume you casting.
  • @Corrupted
Im loving this new arc, amazing content

26:30 So the decision to go to pee is macro. peeing is micro. got it.

God this is so relatable. I had to coach a new player on a turn based game and I could practically feel him being overwhelmed by stuff happening too fast. In RTS it's even more insane. Props to Grubby for being a great coach but also being the best student from what I could see on his DotA2 streams/vids!
  • Grubby: speed is more important than what units you build Grubby: speed is more important than correct placement Grubby: is clearly Sonic the Hedgehog GOTTA GO FAST!
  • I am learning further on these kinds of applied tutorials in match rather than "Ok do this and do that" specially in Wc3.

Man, this is insane. im actually so impressed with everything grubby said in this video (i know grubby is world champ but still, he good at talking and explaining something). you are very dedicated to this game. and im glad that sodapoppin are actually want to listen and play with everything grubby said. i know it hard to find someone that want to do learn something you good at.

24:27 Someone said that if you cannot explain a concept easily then youre not understanding it yourself. And damn you explained it so well and simple, hats off, sir

26:00 "You're going somewhere productive" as Soda stands up to leave. :D
  • @Sonadourge
I really hope this becomes a regular thing. I hope you ask Tyler1 if he'd like wc3 coaching too, this is such a fun series

I think I'd explain surrounds like this: Units move as if they're on a square grid and cannot move diagonally. If you block a unit on the top, bottom, left, and right, then it cannot escape because all of its sides are blocked.
  • @aoc1331
i just bought this game your videos are awesome for learning thank you!
  • The square explanation actually made so many things regarding surrounds make sense
  • @asasjkk
Wow that first game felt so stressful.. I'm happy Soda is giving the game a more serious try. Thanks Grubby :)

The surround coaching was really good. I kept saying to myself that you missed something (use move command to surround, use more units to make it easier, etc.) then you immediately brought it up. The only thing that was lacking really was explaining how to force surrounds combined with CC (storm bolt, sleep, nova/slows to a lesser degree, etc.). If you're going to do this coaching again I'd ask them to train Dreadlord for this specifically. Also it's a good idea to bind lich + ranged units to it's own control group so you can just click the group to focus fire / attack move without interfering with things like aboms. Way faster/easier than box selecting. Although you still need box selecting for things like making openings for pullbacks of course.

You can really tell why some people get good . Sofa has no ego no excuses , just listens to the person better than him and does his best to absorb as much as he can
  • This is great! Even though I watched many, many Grubby videos and usually could follow what was happening, this reveals a lot of details I didn't know. For example the box shape of units. I never even thought about what shape they could have. And seeing a professional gamer struggle to learn things Grubby just does without even thinking about them is a good display of how demanding high level WC3 play is.
  • Grubby, as someone who recently started playing W3 online, this series is extremely useful for learning the game. I think you couching someone who is starting to learn is a better way to make beginner guides due to you being solely focused on teaching. Love the content man, great work

It's pretty clean and useful, but from my point if view for players of his (and mine) level would be great to start to learn wc3 from a makro, scouting and desicison making way. Pretty sure it will be enough to win most if games on our MMR and also would be a solid base for future improvements like micro.
