Badd Medicine here and its Brave reaction time

Brave is a 2012 American computer-animated fantasy film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. The film was directed by Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman (in the former's feature directorial debut), co-directed by Steve Purcell, and produced by Katherine Sarafian, with John Lasseter, Andrew Stanton, and Pete Docter serving as executive producers. The story was written by Chapman, who also wrote the film's screenplay with Andrews, Purcell, and Irene Mecchi. The film stars the voices of Kelly Macdonald, Billy Connolly, Emma Thompson, Julie Walters, Robbie Coltrane, Kevin McKidd, and Craig Ferguson. Set in the Scottish Highlands, the film tells the story of Princess Merida of DunBroch (Macdonald) who defies an age-old custom, causing chaos in the kingdom by expressing the desire not to be betrothed. When Queen Elinor (Thompson), her mother, falls victim to a beastly curse and turns into a bear, Merida must look within herself and find the key to saving the kingdom.

The "be careful what you wish for" is definitely part of the lesson. When you're angry/emotional, you sometimes say things you don't really mean and you end up hurting those you love. And sometimes, you don't get the opportunity to take it back.

My favorite part is when Merida split that arrow in half

This movie is so beautiful. It's a Disney princess movie that doesn't include a love interest (which is not a bad thing to have, but it's good to have something different coming from Disney and it's ORIGINAL and not a remake yk) or a prince saving the princess. It's a love story but between a daughter and mother, it teaches you a lesson as well and it just feels good and fresh to have a Disney princess movie with more cultural aspects. It has a lot of comical aspect as well but really well balanced, it's not too much or put weirdly. I honestly cry everytime I watch it. Sooo underrated!

I was surprised that the mother turned into a bear as well, but it makes sense now. Since the mom couldn't talk or do much, she was finally forced to listen to Merida and let Merida take more charge. So she finally could get to know her and see her as a person not an extension of herself. Edit: And with the risk of losing her mother to the curse Merida realized how much she actually loves and needs her. In this weird new circumstance where they had to work together and they didn't have the means to argue they could finally form a connection and learn to appreciate each another.
  • Fun fact, the prince ( young MacGuffin) that speaks and no one can understand isn't just speaking random gibberish. It's an actual Scottish dialect called Doric that the actor learned growing up in North East Scotland.

I like that you guys called out the witch for being a bit unusual in this movie. My guess is that she's supposed to be a fairy. Sometimes fairies in folklore do want something from the mortals they meet (they have a real thing for stealing children) but other times they just like testing and tempting people for the fun of it. Plus the fact that her house wasn't always there? That's very in-line with fairy folklore, too.

I always cry when the mom comes to Merida’s aid when Mor’du attacks her because not even when the dad was about to kill her did she break free from her restraints. It was only when she saw her daughter was in trouble did she find that momma bear strength to protect her without hesitation of her own well-being. I mean, she was gonna fight a bear two times her size. I always tear up ❤

This is one of my absolute FAVORITES! Merida is a MOOD! First time I watched it was when it came out and my son was around 3 or 4yo. One of the very few movies I was totally cool with watching numerous times, when my son was younger. He's 14 now and we still watch it from time to time! 💚

The witch being a "helper" is a common trope in fairytales and folklore. They are often just village elders or travelling merchants with a bit of trickster in them, but no ill will or own evil intentions. They are rarely interested in what the "hero" does with the magical item they sell them. Problems usually occur when the "hero" doesn't understand the consequences of the magic or does something different than instructed to, and trying to take the magic back never works. It's usually moral stories with life lessons. Having the witch be funny and forgetful in this case was a laugh. But Merida was too distracted by her own desires to think of details and consequences, leading to her moral life lesson could happening.

of all the Disney princess movies that have been made since Disney started making movies, this one is my absolute favorite! 1) it takes place in Scotland 2) Merida has that glorious red hair that clearly stands out 3) she's good with a bow 4) she is the type that cleans out her horse's stall herself 5) is self-reliant and strong willed (goes with being a redhead!) 6) has mommy issues, but sorts them out by the end
  • @AnnMegFair
What I love about this movie is that it's not just a spell misshap or a 'be careful what you wish for'. I think the spell worked EXACTLY as intended. It forced both Merida and her mother to examine who they are and what they value in themselves and in each other. Eleanor learned to see the strengths that Merida had that she never valued before because she was caught up in the way she believed a Princess had to be, and Merida learned to appreciate the hard work her mother put in to her role at court and into raising her children, and that her strictness in preparing Merida for her future role was how Eleanor showed how deeply she loved her. They were both too proud to compromise before the spell forced them, at a strict time limit, to face their differences and accept each other and take steps towards each other. And they did. They were able to do that, where Mordu clearly failed. And they both came out of it changed. So, Merida's wish - to change her mother - DID actually come true. So yeah, not an evil witch, the witch was just chilling, trying to sell her carvings, and gave Merida exactly what she wanted.

The triplets scaring and taunting the hell out of Maudie is priceless 😂 the character role is titled : the bumbling and cowardly castle maid on wiki lol
  • "Mend the bond torn by pride" wasn't about repairing the tapestry, it was about Merida apologizing to her mother and accepting responsibility for everything that had happened. A great bit of misdirection.
  • I love that THIS Disney Princess isn’t fighting for love, but to be her OWN person. It sets this one completely apart from all the others. It also showcases that we may have to fight for it, but with understanding and love, from both sides, it’s possible. Also, on the “just f’in amazing” side of things…they came up with a new way to animate every strand of Merida’s hair individually. Totally changed the game. He hair is GLORIOUS.
  • @ChefNourhan
I love this film but I always thought it had more potential than what they explored in the film.
  • I saw this alone and went like that's so me and my mom. I was in my rebellious teen phase then and always had misunderstanding with my mom. I told my mom we gotta see this together and we did, loved every moment, we bonded over this. She died 7years ago, and am an adult now but this still stand as my most favourite movie of all time. Whenever i watch this i cry, i miss my mother so much. She was more like my best friend and i cherish every moment we spend together watching Brave numerous time.

As a Scottish lassie I love that Merida is on your channel ❤❤❤ she is truly the best princess ever i brought my daughter up watching this and she is now nearly 15 and has the same kinda personality as Merida all she is missing is the wild red hair lol. Makes me even more proud to be Scottish
  • this film has really accurate archery which is one of the reasons I enjoy it the most (plus the dads description of Merida wanting to be single shooting arrows into the sunset ect was very much me at that age too!), the slow mo of Merida loosing the arrow before the robin hood shot, the flex of the arrow, are all incredibly accurate! Including the use of 'loose' instead of 'fire' for arrows.
  • @twylanaythias
"That scaffy witch gave me a gammy spell!" The most Scottish line ever Scotted by a Scot!
