This guy can't catch a break. Survives a nuclear holocaust, breaks his glasses, ends up in a dictatorship, and then gets executed for reading so much.

"I'm a human being. I exist! And if I speak ONE thought aloud, that thought LIVES, even after I'm shoveled into my grave!" Brilliant.
-
"Logic is an enemy and truth is a menace." That line alone hits hard in today's world.
-
Growing up, this was about "other countries." Today, it's about America.
-
Rod Serling, and The Twilight Zone, will NEVER be obsolete.
-
“Any state, any entity, any ideology that fails to recognize the work, dignity, the rights of man, that state is obsolete.”
-
This was meant as a warning, not an instruction manual

The guy on the high stand is literally resting his hand on a book saying, “there are no books”. Excellent example of some in power.

“There are worse crimes than burning books. One of them is not reading them.” ― Joseph Brodsky
-
It has one iron rule: logic is an enemy and truth is a menace. Rod Serling pretty much predicted the future with this one.

"If I speak ONE thought aloud, THAT thought LIVES!! Even after I'm shoveled into my grave! Man I love that line

"If I speak one thought aloud, that thought lives. Even after I'm shoveled into my grave."

This story line makes more sense in 2020 than it did in 1961

This is a timeless lesson that will never become obsolete.

I love the setup of this scene. The obscenely long table, the podium, and the usage of the microphone. All tools to make one feel powerless and make those upon them justified in their perceived stature. Sometimes we use those items to give voice and bring people together. Other times it is the exact opposite. We see this everywhere in our world today from the smallest boardroom to the podiums that powerful people speak at

"Logic is an enemy and truth is a menace" Sounds a lot like Twitter

Where one burns books, one will soon burn people." — Heinrich Heine

This episode has haunted me since I first saw it, when it first aired. And now I feel like I'm seeing it come true right before my eyes.
-
One of the most memorable episodes for sure. I remember he read the 23rd Psalm before the end.

So classic, timely and never loses relevance one of my favorite twilight zone episodes. Rest in peace Rod and Burgess 🙏🏻😇
