  • To this day I still jam out to this movie's version of "I'm still standing" it's a bop.
  • @trinaq
I love how "I'm Still Standing" isn't just about Johnny's relationship with his father, but can also apply to Ash and her cheating boyfriend, hence why the shot cuts over to her during the song!

i appreciate that Gunter had no backstory. He was just there, vibing and living his best life
  • "To the lady in aisle 6..... that, was awesome," is one of my favorite lines out of any animated movie

That scene where Johnny's dad says, "That's my son" then comes to his revelation, and repeats "that's my son" it get's me every time.

I love how Cinema Wins looks at movies and goes "You know what? Good movie, I like it, if you don't good for you." We need more channels loving media unironically just because it scratches that part in our brain, whatever it is for you :)
  • You forgot the most important part about Johnny’s dad. Johnny’s dad, in an effort to get to Johnny before the song finishes, performs feats of strength and agility indicative to gorillas, which were not seen by any of the gorillas throughout the entire film. It’s the most animal any of the animals actually animals through the entire movie. That’s how desperate he was to get to his son and tell him how much he loved him and how much he supported him for following his dream of singing. His paternal instincts broke the wild side out of his character into the forefront, and I am all for it.
  • One thing I really like about Mike's character is how consistently awful he is. He didn't show up at the end to perform because he had a change of heart, he only did it to show off. I also like that his massive ego is what ultimately got him killed

Missed win maybe: As Mina starts singing near the end and starts getting more enthusiastic, her ears begin to unfurl. As she opens up, so do they. In fact at the end I think she no longer has them curled up against her face.

Funny that Taron Edgerton went from singing Elton John, to saving him, to BEING Elton, all in the span of a few years! 😂
  • OK ONE LAST ONE I PROMISE! I think it’s also worth noting that Buster, while while not always the most considerate, does actually have an eye for talent. He realized the potential of putting rosita and Gunter together. His notes on Johnny’s sheet (seen when Johnny attempts to take the locked chest) mention how he feels Johnny lacks discipline which he kind of does and improves on that. And even though Ash didn’t like cheesy pop she WAS good at performing it and Buster recognized that just from her backup singing in a heavy rock song. And when he actually did hear her sing a piece of her own song he immediately recognized her strength with that and wanted it added to the show.

As a 45 year old man, this movie is my guilty pleasure comfort movie, a place now shared with the sequel. It's just so wonderfully sweet, and there's not enough of that in the world these days.

I'm surprised that Johnny's dad first seeing Johnny on the TV didn't get a win. The way he just swells up with pride watching his son absolutely crush the stage. "That's Johnny! THAT'S MY SON!" And then the silent wide-eyed horrified realization of just how huge and horrible mistake he made. "...that's my son..." Followed by him going to the window to think a moment, seeing the lights from the performance in the distance... and then just deciding, at that moment, not a god damn thing in the world is going to stop him from being there to tell Johnny how proud he is, that he loves him, and he is sorry. I felt like that was one of the single most powerful moments of the film, and does a WHOLE LOT with just the delivery of two lines and facial expressions... like, near PERFECT cinematography.

When Meena hits that high note and the wall behind her collapses, I just processed how it reveals the full moon behind her! Their performance was able to restore the theatre back to its natural glory from Nana’s days of performing, such a great little detail!

Another win is Rosita's growth, starting from the selection scene. She's so "invisible" we hardly see her behind the others, but she is there, and the fact that Buster calls her after he dismissed everyone is kind of a build-up to her own character growth; She's quiet and simple, hidden in the audience, but has amazing talent, and with Guenther's help she slowly lets go of her reservations and truly blooms to the point of being in charge of rebuilding the stage and encouraging everyone.

Honestly? I’m really glad I could finally hear some good critiques about this movie, since this movie got a lot of flack. I loved seeing it in theatres.
  • @cazia9
Extra win - Ash turned Buster's puffy princess dress into a grunged-out girl-rocker look that is 100% perfect for her whole set!
  • @bbvaldez3086
This movie is genuinely so sweet and despite being advertised as a cringy kids movie it's a good time. And this channel brought me joy this whole year. Thank you for sending off this holiday season with something so nice. Thank you for your optimism. <3
  • @Fullymetal785
The level of positivity this channel puts forth is like an oasis in a desert of negativity.

"Sing" has a special place in my heart. It was the first movie that my godchild fell asleep on me holding him while watching. I didn't think it was Scarjo singing, but I was SHOCKED to learn it was. I L-O-V-E Tori Kelly because she's such a great singer and such a sweetheart in person. She treats her fame like a gift and her fans like people. She even asked me to sing for her and I sang "Eye on the Sparrow" which had her in tears. I'm not bragging. I'm just saying that she's been around epic singers and yet still can enjoy and feel the emotions from "the little guy." I was going through a rough time then and she hugged me as if we were best friends without knowing what was wrong. The movie was fun and I laughed at it because I know people who remind me of these characters. Gunther is my cousin Vincent, Mike is my brother. . .but bro can't sing, Ash is every girl I work with apparently, and Meena is me because I always could sing, but was and still am, shy until I get going. Then I just perform without thinking. Like Meena, my voice and song choice was soulful and shocked people who hadn't heard it yet. The emotions that "Sing" brings me are part of my memories, nostalgia, and new takes on great aongs. Love it.❤
