I think the reason the 3rd forms look so much like their original persona is because it’s trying to show that as you keep moving forward don’t forget where you came from and how you improved

This is beautiful. The way that they are all comfortable enough to speak out their true feelings like this with their leader AND best friend in such a manner. It takes incredible resilience to go through the same thing all of these characters have endured yet still managing to stay on the right track.

The overall designs are hit or miss for me, but I do like how they change to directly represent the wielder, adopting a more monder aesthetic to match theirs. It feels more direct in that aspect. The only one I don't like is Gorokichi becuase I don't really think it fits Yuskue.

It probably sounds stupid, but I found the beginning of Royal to be really depressing. Joker, a character who we’ve all grown attached to for over 100 hours of gameplay, awakens in a new reality, cut off from the people he knows and loves, and forced to accept a life in a new world with seemingly the only sane person left in his life being his worst enemy. He gets barely a week of peace after saving the world and he watches it fall apart in front of his eyes in a flash, isolated from the only people he has as a result of the weird spell they find themselves under. Then comes a whole week of Joker’s only human interaction being when he confronts his team, including his girlfriend, best friend and adoptive sister, who are essentially just puppets at this point, desperately trying to get them to fight back before returning to his total isolation, not even sure he’s doing the right thing. And the only friend he has left in the world who isn’t totally brainwashed is a slowly crumbling shell who is not only already on her way to becoming Maruki’s puppet, but outright forces Joker, the boy who took her under his wing, to fight her and allow her to live in blissful ignorance. All while, it bears repeating, Joker’s only solace and link to the real world is a psychotic manchild who tried to destroy Joker’s life barely 2 months ago. And that’s not even mentioning the fact that Joker has, in his mind, been totally betrayed by one of the only adults in his life that he trusts. Realistically, you’d expect him to be hanging on by a thread at that point mentally. Sure, they eventually all break free of the illusion and come to help him, which is nice, but then when Joker and Akechi tell them what has to be done, they ALL hesitate because they found comfort in Maruki’s illusion. So, not only has Joker undergone a carousel of trauma, he’s also basically told that it was necessary for his friends to truly be happy in their own minds. Imagine the horrible feeling that would linger in your mind knowing that in order for your friends, your family, the love of your life to achieve what they believe is true happiness, you would have to suffer forever. That breaking free from the illusion isn’t even necessary what the people closest to you want, in spite of the pain that would befall you as a result of remaining there. Joker takes an absolute fucking beating in the first two weeks of Royal and it genuinely made me feel sad to see it. But then these scenes happened. Everyone, one by one, apologises to Joker, apologises for being weak and forgetting the promise they made to him, for leaving him to stew in his loneliness and guilt, just like he did in April. His girlfriend, his best friend, his sister and his comrades all step forward, acknowledge their weaknesses and set Joker’s mind at ease. They literally choose Joker over their greatest wish in life. It really brought the hope back to me, and I envision it doing the same for Joker. Watching all this horrible stuff happen to him, watching his will slowly crumble and his rebellion slowly fade away was cruel, but seeing the Phantom Thieves all come together to return the favour and save Joker was so beautiful to me. And because I’d maxxed all their confidants (besides Akechi) this all happened immediately following the initial Palace infiltration. I love this game, so so much, and I don’t think I’ll shut up about it for a while.

The fact that these aren't fully voice acted is so disappointing. I love all of the main characters (with Haru and Yusuke being my faves) and I deeply wish we got to hear the excellent cast deliver these lines. Max, Cassie, the Ericas, Cherami, Xanthe and especially Matt would have nailed the shit out of them.

Each third awoken persona was like fuuuuuu siiiiiooonnn. HA

This kinda makes scene, They were all personas are mythological figures, and the same with the fan of thieves are somewhat mythical, the personas returning to their original forms are the same way as the characters reminding themselves of what they fight for

i had no idea they were gonna fuse the persona's for a 3rd form i was so busy doing anyone's but our crew's conf, and by the time i did not only was it far too late but i didn't have the skills too. if i knew this was gonna happen i'd put some effort into it even tho you barely use the new personas fo rlong
