In this video you'll see me take on the Circuit de Catalunya - Barcelona in the McLaren 720S GT3 in Automobilista 2. The reason for this video is that I wanted to showcase what I feel is something AMS2 does better than any other racing sim in my collection: time of day progression and dynamic weather.

I'm in awe of your ability to drive so well in the wet and at the same time talk to us in an entertaining and informative way. Very impressive all round yet again. Thanks for the great video, very enjoyable. AMS2 is probably my favourite Sim racer for single player content so always look forward to your AMS2 videos. Thanks again.
  • Im no expert, and I have every sim racing game… and AMS 2 is the only that I continually play. The FFB is amazing, graphics are amazing, rain effects are amazing, its the most FUN to play because every lap is your hanging on for your life, the custom championship with aggressive AI is arguably as good as online, and the amount of content, including historic tracks is top notch. Gameplay is endless.

This is definitely where AMS2 is at its best. I’ve had some fantastic races with both dynamic weather and time of day. Really looking forward to when Le Mans gets added to the game.

I can't wait for the rest of the car lineup to get the new tire model.

On a small kinda unrelated note, Automobilista 2 also runs great on the Steam Deck :')

My first wet race, I was like "can't believe people do this for real" awesome stuff, can't wait for 1.5 update.
  • @RebelSapph
Never looked too much into AMS2 and mostly stayed in iRacing and ACC for all my racing, but you sure sold AMS2 to me after the previous and this video! hahahah thanks a lot for the video!

A lot of the cars have multiple dashboards, including this McLaren. If you map the Cycle MOTEC LCD control (Edit Assignments->Game), you can cycle through and one of them will show the tyre temps.

Thanks to promote AMS2. This game is so underrated... Trying to promote it in France, quite hard...

Gran Turismo 7 also does an good job with time of day transition and dynamic weather, with dynamic drying track. The physics are not as good a AMS2 of course and the FFB whilst using a wheel is not good at all so it is tough to recommend for serious sim racers. Loved your little wobble at the end of the race, shows us mere mortals that you are human after all lol.

This week I finally played AMS2 again after around 2 years (mainly because AC mods were taking up too much space on my hard drive...). I forgot how awesome this sim is. AMS2 does immersion better than any other sim IMO. Was racing at Kyalami today with a friend, a night race, and I loved how you could see the lights of the city in the distance. Haven't really messed around with weather yet, but this makes me wanna have a go at it! Though yesterday I did manage to put the Porsche GT3 R into the wall at Nordschleife because I went too fast as it started getting damp...😂

The weather, time of day, and track progression is really amazing in AMS2. There's so much AMS2 does so well and so much more streamlined than any other sim which is exactly what I think a lot of folks want. The new physics and content and general updates the game is getting is really fantastic and I'm looking forward to seeing what people think once 1.5 is released publicly. Thank you for the content!

Without setting up mandatory stops, the AI is often unwilling to pit in many car classes in changing weather conditions. Seems to be one of the many bugs Reiza got with the Madness Engine. But they have been working a lot to fix all kinds of bugs and glitches. And the physics got better with every update, 1.5 could be an enormous step forward, as cars which already have the new tyre physics feel pretty good.
  • @perhapsjames_
I hope Reiza update the rain physics for AI cars.
  • @BurtSampson
Mike! You gotta take the Group A BMW from this game around the Nord. It's 3 pedals in all its glory. Trust me, it's a blast.
  • @kevin_m
I let out an audible gasp on that t1 incident at the end. Phew! Great driving!
  • @Burl_Hurlbutt
It's strange that the AI stayed on wets for so long. I recently ran a GT3 race at Kyalami that started out wet, and they pitted for dries when there was only a car-width of dry line formed. Might be a Barcelona thing, as a few people on the forums mentioned AI calibration on that specific track needs a bit of tweaking.
  • Smooth driving in the rain man. I really need to play ams2 more, it's such a good game and very underrated in my opinion
  • @jcoulter43
Great video Mike. Makes me envious as a console player that's missing out on this game. God bless and race on 👍😎🏁
  • @Lasukie
The AI in AMS2 usually makes the highest probability pitting decision for pace by me. I've messed with AI strategy a lot and doing dodgy fuel save races/weather races and generally they make the safest, most reasonable call to run a consistent pace with the least falloff over a stint. It's interesting what happened here because the AI was clearly equal to you on the wets, but on dries you began to dominate. The AI doesn't really react (hopefully Reiza figure that out) to your actions and just stays on strategy they figured upon at the start of the race. Once we get a more reactive AI that can make these tough, low percentage calls it'll really take off as a sim imho.
