Range has long been a Tesla forte. Ridiculous acceleration, too. But what about the sort of delectable handling that a BMW M3 serves up?

Tesla boss Elon Musk claimed the last Tesla Model 3 Performance was 15% quicker than the equivalent M3, and with better handling – but we’d take the BMW over it for one last lap of a racetrack.

Now there’s a new Model 3 Performance though, and Tesla contends it’s much more of a super-saloon than ever before. Over to Top Gear Magazine’s editor-in-chief, Jack Rix, to find out how it stacks up…

Noticed the discrepancy between the price we state in the video and the title? Good spot. We were briefed on it being £55,990 on the media launch, but it's since been upped to £59,990…

You know Tesla is killing it when the only bad thing the reviewer can comment on is that the car lacks fake noise and gear shifts. LOL
  • 12:09 STRONG disagree....do NOT want fake engine noises and fake gear shifts....please no. Just like I don't want fake grills or fake exhaust pipes on an EV. Just no.
  • No: oil changes, radiator coolant leaks, power steering leaks, no fuel filter changes, no broken exhaust, no more gasing up, no more bad alternator, starter, MAF, sensors, bad timing belt-chain, no bad water pump, no noisy combustion engine, ...
  • @kzil
Thank you Tesla for not putting in fake sound, and fake gear shifts, but keeping it real.
  • This car has no competition in it’s price range. It’s the perfect car for people that want fast and comfortable. Perfect charging infrastracture with great prices, beautiful design and seats as well as performance that brings a smile to your face every day you drive it.
  • @gotham61
It's amazing how we've become so jaded about EV acceleration, that 0-60 in 2.9 seconds is only briefly mentioned in passing. For the record, this is faster to 60 than any Ferrari or Lamborghini made before 2010.
  • When the first ICE cars appeared, did journalists ask for horse sounds to be added to the cars?
  • @T0NY66
An M3 is over 1,800 kilos too
  • @imacdvman
Sorry but the weight is nearly the same as an actual BMW M3 Competition (1780Kg) vs. 1830Kg of the M3P🤔
  • 45k in the USA right now making it the best priced performance car on the market
  • I don't know what this guy is on about. 0 to 60 anywhere in the 2 second range IS insane.
  • It is funny how journalists are saying that a model 3 performance with 1850 kg is heavy, but a bmw m3 competition with 1820 kg is light Very funny 😂 I am really curious if bmw m3 competition can beat it on a track
  • @B4R0N.
$45K point of sale price with the tax credit. That's a slam dunk.
  • @jezza6575
Disappointed that there’s no fake gear shifts and no fake noises? You gotta be kidding right?😳
  • 10:41 the weight comment is silly. The Model 3 Performance now weighs only 44lb more than a BMW M3 Competition xDrive. Why didn't you guys look that up before repeating this tired mantra? That 44lb is nothing considering the weight balance vs the BMW, not to mention its extra power and torque.
  • It’s an EV, it doesn’t need fake noise or gear shifts 😂😂
  • @MurrayC
Pretty much the same weight as an M3, all cars are heavy now
  • @NextGenEvs
Simulated gear shifts and fake noises? Hell no dude. It’s better the way it is
  • @Mamba310
Saw this in person yesterday. This is truly a BMW M3 killer
