CAMPING ON SAO JORGE ON THE AZORES

Sao Jorge is one of the Azorean islands. Amongst many others, it is famous for the cheese (Quejo Sao Jorge) and canned tuna fish (Santa Catarina). We also tried the traditional cookies, here is how they are like!

I stayed on a campsite in Urzelina, which is on the southern shore of Sao Jorge. There are several other campsites on Sao Jorge.

There is also a unique place to visit - a coffee plantation! You can see the plantation and try to coffee (with some traditional pastries). Here is the little story of why the coffee on Sao Jorge has a unique flavour!

We also hiked to Faja de Santo Cristo!!!! My jaw dropped there.

Ultimately, we checkked out the capital - Velas!

Unfortunately I only got to stay for three days, and I would definitely love to come back!!! If you have any recommendation on unique experiences on Sao Jorge, I AM ALL HERE! :)

Best,

Noemi

K saudades. I used to live on Terceira.. and when I went to Sao Jorge I stayed in the same campsite back in 1991. Loving all your Azores videos. ❤️👍

I enjoy listening to how you speak English so much. You take your time unlike most other people who don't speak it natively. It's so cool!!!
  • I loved the fajas in Sao Jorge. I loved the people, they were so friendly.
  • I really like your videos, they give a real good sense of what it is like to be there. thank you!

You walked from Faja do Vimes to Faja dos cubres, yea? How did you feel about the length? I’ve been looking at those trails and was wondering if it was too much for a 1 day hike to go from coast to coast. You make it look doable! Thank you for sharing.
