We’re All Stuck|Been So Long, Truck Won’t Start. Snowstorm Came Out of Nowhere & Receiver Shut Gates

Published 2024-01-16
it’s been a while since I’ve been in the truck and she would not start. Once she did get started the mess that I ended up getting myself into, the load is almost 24 hours late. The interstate shut down and I’m stuck at the receiver.

Happened to be scrolling through You Tube and came across your video. I'm a farmer high in the Pennsylvania mountains off Rt. 40 near the Maryland border. We have a 3+ mile mountain that is the truckers nightmare during snow. It is "very" posted at the bottom trucks & non 4 wheel drive must use chains in inclement weather. So, we have a flash snow storm that dropped 8" of snow fast. In Penndot's wisdom, there is a pull off half way up that truckers who know it's there will pull off the mountain to get rest and let their trucks cool down. Several trucks were stranded there when the storm hit and they closed the mountain for over a day. I was at the Sunoco station getting kerosene and a young fellow was in there looking froze trying to get help for fuel for his rig. He had I think it's called a reefer and he was afraid of the truck running out of fuel and ruining his load ? The truck was idling on the mountain pull off being watched by other stranded truckers. This fella walked almost three miles in a blizzard type storm to get to Sunoco. I have a 250 gallon fuel tank on my dually farm truck to fuel equipment in the field. I'm also a volunteer fireman in my area. The look on this poor guys face when I told him I'd deliver him 250 gallons of fuel, more if he needed it was worth the effort. He used his card to top off my 250 gallon tank and we headed to his truck. After I pumped that we headed back to Sunoco where he replaced the fuel in my tank. Here 8" of snow to locals is a "dusting", but we're used to it. Stores rarely close. I told him there was a Subway, Fox's pizza, and a place called Pappy's right on the way back to his truck. I just happened to have their numbers on my phone if he needed food 🤫. He ordered a couple pizzas & subs for the others stuck. We returned to his truck and the others were very happy to get the food. I'd say they were stuck there another 7 or 8 hours. PennDot didn't make it a priority to plow them out. You truckers have a tedious job to start with. I could never do what you do with the maniac drivers out there without bad weather factored in. Since this happening, if I'm in the area I will check the pull off in bad weather to see if the truckers are OK. Society needs you guys more than they think. Take care.

Man I've seen APU's cost driver's some Money the last two weeks. Helpful hint; when it's minus 20 out, don't shut the truck off.

Love the drone and pancakes lol. I have not driven OTR or locally in 15 years. A lot has changed. I had a plug-in drink cooler, no microwave, fridge, and that thing for temp control when the truck is not idling (I saw it but I don't know the name of it). I used to carry a Coleman cooker, with two small propane bottles. At certain times, I would stop and cook a pork chop dinner Chops, mash, and veggies) or a spaghetti dinner at the rest stops. It wasn't to be cheap but for a home-cooked meal feel. Now you better buy groceries and have some way to cook. Omg, the prices are not crazy but insane. Be safe and God Bless, Don't forget to put money up in savings ( any amount is better than none!)

Fam always leave your apu on standby when temp drop. It'll save you from this problem you having. I left my truck for 4 days and had my apu on standby and it fired straight up with temps in dallas in the teens.

  • @EyeForKnowledge.
Using your car to start a big rig??? Good way to destroy your car battery.
  • @vincentgrant6670
My brother you should have a cure switch that turns everything off while your truck is sitting for days weeks or months turn the switch off so you can save your batteries you won’t have those problems I know Freightliner is having Volvo save them and it looks like you might be in a Kenworth. I don’t know. I’m watching the beginning of the video. I’m not watching it all the way through right now but turn the kill switch off it saves your batteries.

Curious, are you on hourly hire or do you get paid by the load?
