Best way to explain the differnce between the Fold and Flip I've found is: the Flip is a poket watch that opens into a smartphone, while the Fold is a TABLET that CLOSES into a smartphone; If that makes sense

I love my flip 5. I don't care about smartphone cams, IMHO they are all more or less about the same. I don't use things like Instagram so I'm not endlessly scrolling through lists. I use my phone as an mp3 player most of the time, or to do things like to-do-lists, write down blood glucose values, or buy a ticket. My S21 FE was just too bulky. I had to use both hands all the time. My Flip 5 is usable completely one-handed which is VERY useful on the train or bus. Everything from deezer to youtube, google maps, google keep, chrome, and much more, is perfectly usable on the cover screen (which is far more than just a "widget screen" as you call it, but the available widgets are great, especially the calendar is beautiful). And I love to customize the cover screen home page and how stylish and cool it looks. I rarely unfold it. But when I need to do, it offers premium quality. I don't agree with you that it isn't a premium phone.

I'm traveling in Croatia now with my Tab S9 and Z Flip 5, and both have been perfect travel companions. The only thing I miss is a telephoto lens, but using the cover display and regular rear cameras is a better experience than any other phone. I'm no longer a power user, so the Z Flip meets my needs perfectly. Can't see going back to a slab phone.

As someone who owns a Flip 5, it is a well-built device....that being said a month later it feels like an upper-middle phone that folds. Cool phone easy to carry conversation starter but needs to be in the 600 to 800 pricing. I still use my Fold 4 more.

The fold 5 crushes the flip w everything except price.

I think one of the things that gets missed with the Flip is that theres a small to moderate sized market segment of people like myself who are trying to get away from using phones so much and spending more time without the phone in our hands. It seems to me that the Flip is a stop gap between standard brick style smart phone, and the mucu more minimalist dumb phones that are available.

Very different than the Fold of course. Both are pretty great. The size of this when closed is so good.

I am so glad I found you on a vrs video as I begin to analyze which route to go, Flip or Fold. The points you go through are excellent! What I love about your video is that you hit on aspects, perspective's and intangibles needed to make a purchase decision. Like when you disclosed that the front outside screen is not like a desktop, the way the sound comes left or right based on speakers, the feel and view of horizontal or vertical content...I love how you are bringing to the consumer that if you are a "stick shift" cell phone driver...you may be a little disappointed in "driving an automatic" in so far as the differences between the type of cell phone user you are. Spot on! Your video has helped me decide that I think I am more of a FOLD user then the Flip. I like to get things done then to just play with the cell. LOL! I so wanted to be a convenient FLIP user, but yeah, I agree with you, I want to have a neat compact cell but they do need to vamp up the productivity and user points/ tools you speak of in order for me to convert. Loving my Z flip 5

There is nothing bad to say about Samsung's Z Flip 5 - it's just that for me, the Z Fold 5 fits my device fix to get what I need for 1/2 tablet screen viewership, otherwise, I just as well settle for a regular Candy bar phone like the much anticipated S24 Ultra.

I wish people understood that not everyone is looking for the "best performance" in any phone they buy. Folding phones are fun and that is why people buy them. I personally don't care about phone cameras at all because I take my pictures with dedicated DSLRs, so no matter how good an iPhone camera is, it will never encourage me to buy it.

Thanks for another awesome and objective video. I've had the Z Flip 5 for about almost a month. I really like the phone so far. I started laughing when you described the typical "user" who would enjoy using this phone. You are correct. I don't use my phone as much as I did 5 years ago. I don't use my phone to consume most of my content, so I like the form factor. I don't take a lot of pictures, so camera quality isn't very high on my list of selling points. I love not having to open the phone much at all. I first purchased the Moto Razr Plus and it kept randomly rebooting on me, so I returned it and got the Z Flip 5 instead. I do agree the phone is way overpriced but I took the plunge anyhow.

I normally use cases, but due to the size of this phone, I didn't want to put one on because it would be even thicker than a regular phone since it's basically two cases.. however, the damn thing is so slippery so if you set it down on a bed or anything, it just starts to slide away, so I had to resort to using a case... I did get the thinnest one I could find though. Haha.

could you share what settings you used in the pro recording mode

I would like the specs of my Z flip 5 to challenge S23, but i dont care so much as long its good enough, because right now its already in the lead with Uniqueness. People saying "s23/iphone14 has bigger front screen. ok well i have a more screen real estate because my outerdisplay is technically a screen." "S23/Iphone can take better pictures, ok i can take better selfies and decent regular ones" "s23 has no crease, i can fold" "s23/iphone14 betters specs, i can fit in my pocket". Counter arugment to every topic, flips/folds comes down to preference not what's better, and right now Zflip5 is finally something NEW not slightly improved. Regular Traditional Smartphones are in my opinion are stale. I have friends with S23 Ultra and Iphone14 and it feels like no cares or no one can tell the difference unless the user points it out. Meanwhile Zflip Zfold or any flipfold for that matter turns heads like a car accident on a turnpike, because its NEW. If you want to stick to what you know stick with the oridinary traditional smartphones, want to change it up get get a flip or fold. I hope Iphone has something Unique up their sleeves, it doesn't even need to be Flip maybe Dedicated iPhone Glasses, something NEW. Take away from this long comment is... its 2023 smartphones are boring.
