The 2016 Formula 1 season enters it's period of transfer rumours. Legendary F1 playboy Eddie Irvine talks about rumours of Nico Rosberg leaving Mercedes for Ferrari and the usual silly season politics in the business and how he pulled off a 10 million dollar bluff in his own career. "The rumours generally tended to be true. No need to play along", he says.

    Thanks for posting. For me one of Eddie's best races was Suzuka 1997 where he at once destroyed McLaren's strategy by stealing track position and allowed Schumacher to hold on to his championship hopes by allowing him through at the "Senna S" en route to victory, despite Hakkinen being hot on his heels. Incredible.

    DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH. WHY didn't the interviewer focus more on Irvine not going to McLaren. Frustrating!

    I do find it a shame Eddie never went to McLaren - though the talks probably did spur Coulthard on (thought his peak was 2000 and 2001, the first half of both seasons at least). Always thought he was wasting his time at Jaguar though it has to be said no other Jaguar driver apart from him ever finished higher than 5th, even Webber in his impressive 2003 season.

    Would have been amazing to see Eddie in a Mclaren in 2000. I think Mika would still beat him, but Irvine was better than Coulthard in my opinion. I remember in 1995 apparently Williams wanted to sign him for Coulthard also. Maybe 96 and 97 champions could have been different.......oooooh F1. I miss the old days. P.S. check out Irvine's instagram. Even now he has a life of a king. He does more cool stuff in one day than we could hope to do in one lifetime.
