If you kept being bullied in the past by people pretending to be nice and complimenting you, to then laugh and making fun of you for believing that anyone would actually think that, especially if they pretend they want to be your friend to then go and bully you after, you start to think that any kind gesture or compliment or attempt to be friends is a scheme to bully and humiliate you, and you won't fall for it anymore so you really just put up these walls around you that won't ever come down, thinking that no one's ever nice to you for real, it's only because they're making fun of you, so no matter what they say "no, I actually mean it" they're still lying trying not to get caught so they can still humiliate and make fun of you, so you don't ever believe what anyone says regarding being nice to you. So I get it, everyone around you could be really nice to you all the time, but in your head they're all bullies, mean people constantly making fun of you. Like compliments that aren't actually compliments but mean insults in disguise.
