Tikki: Marinette is the best Ladybug I ever known. Meanwhile, the show canonically has shown that Joan D'Arc was also Ladybug. A literal saint and patron of France.
  • I feel like the mlb fandom are more able to write the show than the actual writers
  • Ya know what's funny? You mention the idea that Marinettes friends convince her she has a crush on Adrien and she just goes along with it to fit in. That happens in canon. But not with Adrien. But with Luka. She was so clearly not into that guy but everyone was like "Oh! Hot guy! Marinette! You have a crush!"

Honestly, for a show that has a Chinese/half Chinese protagonist, I don’t actually see many references to her culture. Sure, the show doesn’t have to, and it’s not like they show many french ones either, but there’s a lot more that could have been explored regarding it.
  • @akutagawa..
I was always weirded out about Marinette's obsession and how their friends supported her.
  • @tezzystarz
The fact that Marinette was about to kiss a statue of Adrien is borderline disgusting
  • @araina9007
In my opinion, Kagami is basically the perfect representation of how Marinette should have been. Marinette just seems like a cheap version of her.

In the anime version marinette is actually very straight forward with Adrian, and always trys to confess to him, but the twist is andrian doesn't like her and is kind of annoyed, it's basically like a Sasuke and Sakura ver, and the funny thing is when they're on their hero form, Adrian is biggest simp for ladybug and marinette/ladybug just keeps friendzoning him 💀 I like this story more, and if they actually sticked to the story it would probably be more successful.
  • @akinamation
the buns can also be symbolism of how her self-esteem is much higher when she's ladybug, while being low as Marinette. edit: thanks to the comments that said it's symbolism!!
  • @Navillea
The redesign is honestly the exact way I've always envisioned Marinette! With the Chinese homage and the twin buns, even down to the ribbons!

Honestly, every time Marinette TRIED to talk to Adrien, I had to force myself not to skip the scene. Her reactions were way too exaggerated. I remember there was this one episode in which she STOLE his phone to delete her voice message, I understand that it's embarrassing but I felt like it was an opportunity for the show to address her obsession. Realistically, it would be almost impossible to NOT know someone has a crush on you if they were being as obvious as Marinette was (literally everyone in their class knows about Marinette's crush but Adrien). We have all seen Adrien being uncomfortable when Chloe touches him, so what if Adrien knew about Marinette's obsession with him and was slightly uncomfortable but didn't want to reject her cause of his "nice guy" persona? What if Marinette was caught trying to delete the message? That would've given the show a chance to address the toxic infatuation and given Marinette a little more character development after getting rejected to mature.
  • It’s actually pretty interesting how lacking Marinette’s Chinese heirtage influences her life. Her mother moved from china to France, changed her first name to fit in better and married Tom after a few years, but we still don’t know why she did all that. She’s not in contact with her family, her uncle who she hasn’t seen before Marinatte was born who only stopped by because he had other business in Paris, and she didn’t even stick around to visit instead delegating her daughter who doesn’t speak a word of mandarin to welcome her grand uncle that she’s never met or know much about. In the Shanghigh special when Marinette goes to visit said grand uncle she sees a picture of her mom as a child whom she’s never seen at that age but also discovers that her mother has a sister that Marinette had no privious knowledge of until that moment. I don’t know if it’s all a mishap of the writers or if it’s leading to something bigger, I guess we’ll see.

The thing about Yandere Simulator is that we, as a mature audience, know Ayano is not a good person. But Marinette is displayed as a role model to young children and is never called out on her bs but only praised. That itself makes it a would-be a horrible show for younger kids to watch but a guilty pleasure us older audiences. Edit: hoq rhe frick did i get 2.6 k???
  • i love the thought of tikki being over protective and plagg barely caring. expanding on that idea, what if marinette's parents are very loose with her (still good parents, just not knowing whats best for her) and she likes having tikki put a little structure in her life because when everything was ambiguous, she felt overwhelmed. And on the opposite hand, gabriel is still very strict and controlling of adrien but plagg lets him break free of everything holding him back. thats kind of how it is in the show but it could be explored more.

When you mentioned the abuse of the miraculous, it reminded me of that episode where Chloe was the clear cut answer to defeat the Villain of the Week. But Marinette decided to go for Kagami to get her away from Adrien. And this in turn led to her leading Hawkmoth directly to Master Fu.
  • @annamav9700
Oh, that part about "gaslighted into thinking you like someone" hits hard. I am lesbian, and always was, but I was gaslighted several times by my friends into thinking I liked a boy...
  • @atinyevil1383
A storyline I’ve wanted to see in the series since the beginning: Chat Noir finally realizes Lady Bug is never going to be into him. Marinette also realizes Adrien is not going to be into her. Marinette mopes around one night and Adrien surveying around as Chat Noir sees her and is like “oh hey, that’s Marinette from my class, why is she sad?” They start hanging out a lot and actually get to know each other and help each other through hard times and toxic behaviours like Marinette’s obsession with Adrien (not knowing she’s talking about him, of course) and Adrien not standing up for himself in his daily life. They actually developed REAL feelings for each other instead of what they built the other person up to be in their heads.
  • @hart1027
I think the main problem in the later scenes is that chat noir becomes extremely creepy. Ladybug says several times she’s not interested and he starts lashing out and keeps on trying to force a relationship on her. Another problem is that the show starts taking itself way too seriously.
  • "Traumatize the child" -- Callimara, 2021 Seriously though, you make some excellent points. I always fund it weird how Mari's stalker-like behavior was praised and even called "romantic".
  • @TriXJester
Honestly I feel like most fans agree the whole series deserves a massive reboot with a better showrunner who actually understands teen girls.
