I can't wrap my head around the fact Ide-san cast his own V12 engine modeled after the BMW unit in the McLaren F1. His own carbon fiber bumpers, hoods. His own wheel designs. Same shop for 50 years. Nissan came to him to look at the BMW M1 straight-6 for ideas for a motorsport engine. Fascinating to the point of shocking. I never heard of this man but he's my new favorite story.

Outside of the usual shop tuning stuff, Iding and tommykaira might just be the two greatest Japanese tuners capable of running series production, good luck to the guy who’s trying to restart tommykaira really hoping for a comeback
  • @kevinju23
Japan's tuner always amaze me. This is one of the example by focusing the "ideal" cars should be , putting aside how many horsepower it can produce. Making Enzo Ferrari daily driveable, it's another lever of engineering. Thanks Hagerty Team and Larry Chen for this amazing content.

He is so gangster the way he just hops in that Enzo and touches it off. That confidence only comes from a true master craftsman. Yes craftsman, not mechanic, because when you are designing components at this level you are a craftsman. Phenomenal video. I bet Ferrari doesn't dare give him a cease and desist because the respect him.way too much. Absolute legend!
  • @MrTimstaaa
The Japanese tuners have never gotten enough credit or coverage for their amazing work that they do. Japanese take passion & perfectionism to another level that's why just about everything they do is the best. Wish I could visit his shop.
  • @sbboy805
I am at a complete loss for words. I haven't been excited to see an episode like this one here. I know a lot of underground Japanese tuners since I have been learning for 20 years but I haven't heard of him. Proves that you can never stop learning.
  • @sanmarinyo
This is absolutely beautiful. If there’s any way for you guys to show more of him and his work, that would be absolutely amazing.
  • @aizatms
When Ferrari is not "passionate" enough, Japan. The history, too amazing. The knowledge, underrated pioneer imo. Real proper legend!
  • @chesspiece81
To have an Enzo is bad ass. To pull the engine and stroke, it is unreal. I thought David Lee's modified Dino was cool as hell, but this is another level. Awesome upload Larry
  • @gcscr
I've heard about Ide-san before, and at this point I'm scared that he will start modifying humans too. The amount of knowledge he holds it is just amazing.
  • He’s a champion for naturally aspirated engines! 14:22 “kore wa (this is) Inconel” more exotic exhaust stuff.
  • @Apache177
Just like in Mangas, the Old man is not to be taken lightly 🤯🤯🤯 How come we don't get to hear about more legends like him
  • @thaphreak
Wow, another from Larry so soon and yet again amazing. These works of art are the stuff dreams are made of.
  • This collaboration of Vlogs from Japan is possibly the best thing I've seen in many a year about world car culture. Truly a brilliant series! Kudos to you LC and the gang. Cheers :)
  • Larry this has to be one of my favorite videos you've shot and I feel extremely lucky to have seen it. The work Ide-san has achieved here I feel has no equal. Japanese cars and Japanese cars culture is undoubtedly my favorite of them all but the quality of the work on the E30, E36 and the Enzo is just unreal and Ide-san deserves all the praise and respect, beyond OEM quality. I would go so far to say if Eno Ferrari himself was alive that he would approve and take his hat off to Ide-san for genuinely making Ferrari's better than the factory.
  • @johnnyg9804
Once again, Larry comes through with something unreal and totally inspiring. Wonderful! Thank you!
  • This could be one off the best tuning shop I have ever seen bmw and ferrari.
  • @rotrmotr
Thank you Larry and Hagerty for this amazing shop tour. Increasing the crankshaft stroke increases torque. This is the sauce that makes the car accelerate effortlessly.
  • @gsdtdeaux7978
Jaw dropped!! When he talks to the young crowd and says “boy, I invented…” he actually MEANS it! Lmao this dude is the definition of “the real deal”
