I managed to record only about 2/3 of the welcoming speech which was spoken in NZ's 2nd official language, Maori, by ________ ? . The second speech, spoken in English was from the President of the NZ Tertiary Education Union, Sandra Grey.
Reason for the gathering, with the following text being courtesy of Grant Brookes : "The Select Committee considering the TPPA reported back to Parliament today, on the 300 oral submissions which they'd heard over the last month – including one from NZNO (tinyurl.com/zy9vvkf) Meanwhile, 150 people rallied outside. The speakers were good. Green MP Kennedy Graham and Fletcher Tabuteau of NZ First both said that the Select Committee members from the government side had not listened to the people's submissions calling for independent impact assessments. Both called for a binding referendum on whether to ratify the TPPA.
Labour's spokesperson, Grant Robertson, said that Labour also opposed the Select Committee's report.
Other speakers were; NZCTU Secretary Sam Huggard, Upper Hutt City Councillor Angela McCeod, Peter Young of TPP Free Wellington, and me (notes of my speech are here: nznogrant.org/2016/05/04/tppa-let-the-people-decid….
