Fleet Carriers are now available on the Beta servers. I purchase a fleet carrier and check out all its services, features and costs. This is the first video on carriers, and more will follow shortly.

This update gives me the joy of owning a space station without the joy part.

"Drake-class carrier suggests there could be alternate models" Oh you mean like Scarab SRV?

the main issue isnt the upkeep cost (thouhg its certainly a reason) the main thing they overlooked is that they expect 1 to 5 players to be able to round up the money to pay for what is essentially a city. there should be options to set up away missions and mining operations from the carrier to help pay for the upkeep, as well as setting up trade routes and designated traders that head out to nearby systems.

“Hand of Dorn” sounds like ant is a Imperial Fists player

buys a fleet carrier me: I'm never going to financially recover from this
  • It's like when they decided to make Fleet Carriers personal, instead of Squadron, they left the pricing at the Squadron level. These costs make more sense if you think about them being paid by a squadron of active players all pooling their credits together.

If only the rest of Elite was as high quality as their sound design...

I’m okay with these costing a lot. It’s meant to be end game material after all. The thing I don’t like is the manipulative tactic of a weekly upkeep cost. The primary point of carriers is very clearly to keep players in the game in order to not lose such a massive investment.

For a moment there I thought I was going to return to Elite Dangerous... but yeah...
  • @thestamper
The carrier owner doesnt even get a forward facing deck viewing out of a force field but instead in the belly of the ship looking at a wall! Lmao so much missed opportunity to allow the owner to see the majesty of space or their own carrier jumping

Initially I was excited at the prospect of Fleet Carriers. To have a movable home base with all my ships and some storage. But no longer. It would be just a burden I can do without....
  • @DarthWall275
Wow! It's incredible...... They're even duller and less engaging than I could ever imagine 😲
  • @goshnodo
Wish they would give you a cockpit view at least when you're jumping.

147 million in weekly costs is absolutely absurd, especially when considering that you’re paying for, what is effectively, a glorified space garage and trading outpost, that has no real way to pay for itself, let alone allow the player to make enough money off of it to offset the costs and earn a little extra on the side to afford other things. At this point, it’s just something you buy to flaunt your wealth and advertise how much disposable time you have to grind in Elite. Almost completely pointless, if not completely pointless.

The sound effect during the transit is awesome, sadly the visual is completely lacking. I can't help but imagine how awesome it is if such top-notch sound effect is complemented with a bridge view watching the jump.
  • @SNAKE.LOVER.69
Imagine the Fuel Rats with one of these. Like a central operation hub.
  • @JG27Korny
I want to thank FD for not charging me credits for the 6 months I did not play the game for storing my fleet for free in multiple places all over the bubble.
  • @ethzero
Yet another great concept killed by FDev's perma-grind.
  • @Luciferke
The sound department deserve a nobel price for that indoor jump sound effects.
