I dropped my RV. Tire change gone wrong…

I knew better, but I did it anyways and it bit me in the ass! They say these motorhome jacks are for stabilizing only, and should never be used to lift the RV in the air. However, many times while camping we've had one end or the other completely off the ground and never an issue. I'm still not sure whether it was the rear jack sinking, or the front one retracting itself that caused the failure, but either way I got extremely lucky that the only damage was bent mounting brackets for the rear jacks.

Luckily I own my own tow trucks and head the ‪@zackliftinternational4841‬ sitting there on the back of the ‪@SeriousTrucks‬ ready to go. So between that and my ‪@harborfreight‬ off road jack, I was able to get it picked up and safely set on some blocks

Crawling under a wonky supported RV is a comment generator and it worked BUT just because you "got by with it this time does not mean you will the next time." :-)

Casey I worked for Coachman servicing bigfoot systems for over 15years & yes you can leave the system fully extended for long periods of time ( like winter storage )as long as you coat the pistons with lubricant prior to lowering ( 556,WD40,) , what happened in your case & i have seen it many times is the front left gave way lost pressure over time causing the RV to tilt applying more side force to the left rear lean which in turn caused the base to dig in and eventually causing the supports to bend at their weak points ,your system when working properly should be able to support the RV for an indefinite amount of time while extended ,but please remember it is an open system meaning if you have a bad seal or blow a weak line due to dry rot the system will come down retract so while up for service use jack stands , and it always good to have your piston feet on 2x12x12 pressure treated pads to widen the foot print .
  • Crawling under a broken jack system was not the smartest thing I’ve seen. I would have put jack stand under it before leaving it with out tires.
  • Casey: this leveling jack system has never worked right … but I’m gonna trust it and leave it to support the entire weight of the RV

Lesson learned...for all of us! Now, you need to make out a bill for this recovery, frame it and put it on your office wall as a reminder to not push your luck.... luck might get tired of saving your ass! Really good video, kiddo.
  • Casey, you've learned one lesson, and that is never to do that again. We all learn something new every day, no matter how old we get. Thank you for sharing! 😊❤
  • @thinfourth
When do we get the video of you squishing the garmin with the zaklift?
  • Nice local recovery, did you do it for free since it was for a mentality handicap customer? 😂
  • @chaspruitt2610
Brother, I enjoyed the video. BUT I cannot believe you crawled under that camper with it only supported by broken & bent leveling jacks. 😱🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ What were you thinking???
  • @jamesbigham9036
Good morning Casey the main thing I love about your channel is when you mess up you do a video about it. That is reality things don't go as planned and you have to fix it. I am sure your lovely wife was probably more freaked out than you were about it
  • @Hanky_Bannist8r
At least nobody was hurt, the RV wasn't damaged too badly and you learned a lesson. The wrecker saved your bacon.
  • @bsjcook
Alright Casey, after watching that goat rope, I thought I'd never watch another video ... THEN I realized you staged the whole thing to make us all feel better about OUR goat ropes! Love ya man!
  • @LHW-kg9cp
I watched you set blocks with grain aligned with rotor/ hub and almost commented that sometimes hub/rotor will split blocks, but I didn't .. then lock splits as you set down on blocks. 😋 I know you know better, and yet you did it again in final set. Always set wooden blocks so edges are at 90 degrees to grain of wood! It's like you said about using levelers as stands, you might get away with it but it might "bite you in the ass." 🙂 Doing this safely takes way less time, way less injury, way cheaper than even 1 failure in 100 tries.
  • 'You're never supposed to do this...' And how many of us have done it? I was UNDER my '70 Chevy when the jacks gave out. Never knew I could move that fast...🙄
  • @marlar58
OK ... I think you may be now be lifetime member with us. "Those who shouldn't have done that or put off a should do" and it bit us in the rear.
  • @Hondo68
What not to do when you are changing tires on your RV.
  • @seancrumby3241
Your patience is outstanding. Plus your positive attitude really makes me strive to be better myself. Thank you
  • @jamiecaskey7287
Hey Casey, hindsight has always been the clearest for me. You never cease to amaze me. All of your knowledge in this industry always impresses! Thanks for all you do, seen and unseen Casey Ladelle. A good man to be following and playing his moves forward.
  • In the future - Air Bag Jacks would be nice to have in an emergency recovery ... you might have to remove a vehicle after an accident with damage steer wheel
  • @jackwalsh1468
I can envision Casey singing "I saw the light" I'm very impressed with you Casey, for your unmitigated honesty in the accepting/owning of your actions. That and the means to reconcile the same. Cheers, Mate.
