They'd cut me out for breaking bread, but I had other dreams instead. My best friend, who died aged 83,last October 6th,was a working class boy who watched the aeroplanes land at Filton Airport as a boy, and became a fighter pilot. For 27 years we talked about dimensions, and time travel in his gentle Bristol accent. He was nearly 30 years older than me, and I think of him when I listen to this, exquisite, song. Goodbye my stargazer.
  • In my opinion, this is one of the best songs of Mark Knopfler. He is a great musician
  • One of the prettiest songs ever, painted in colors that could only be blended by these two beautiful voices.

This song was co written by Mark and James and is about two English surveyors who went to America and established the borders between Pennsylvania and Maryland, Delaware and Virginia in the 1760s. This later became known as the Mason Dixon line ,the border between the Southern and Northern States. I bought JT's first album way back in '69 and still listen to his work and it is as fresh now as it was then. We who lived through the late sixties into the seventies were truly blessed !

Knopfler is so talented. It's insane to be that gifted.

Mark Knopfler and David Gilmour have the most significant and mesmerizing Guitar playing in Music History. This Guitar Sound is out of this world.

15 years old, and Mark Knopfler is my favorite artist of all time. Pretty much inspired me to pick up a guitar. These songs bring up so much memories.

Damn, Knopfler and Taylor are two of my favourites. I had no idea they recorded a song together. What a nice surprise.
  • Those guitar riffs are as close to heaven as we get on this rock.

Mark is a great story teller. If you notice, most of his songs are telling a story and most seem to be rather personal to him.
  • Took my Grandparents to see Mark at Leeds Arena last weekend. This was my highlight of the night!

This is such a ridiculously well-crafted song and performance.

a legendary song from a legend...we are lucky because we are living same time with Mark Knopfler...
  • Beautifully dreamlike, melodic, historical...musically perfect. It paints a vivid picture of another place and time. Something that every American school kid should listen to in history class. A great lesson in under six minutes...

When I close my eyes, I'm seeing myself there - on the ship waiting for my adventures in America. I can see this so bright, that I can almost feel the sun and see the capes of Delaware. I know it's madness, but that's music to me.

I'm 14, and while all my friends are listening to pop and rap, I'm listening to James taylor and Mark Knopfler.

Mark Knopfler is quite simply a musical genius, just listen to those guitar licks, he could play my broom handle, and make it sound like a strat, oh did I mention the lyrics? poetry married to music
