It's amazing how dying sultan could personally rally his soldiers in a fierce battle. A true leader, I'd say.
  • I live in Marrakech, there is still till this day the marvelous essaadi tombs, that you can visit while sightseeing monuments.

The fact that morocco didn't fall to foreign rule between early 16th and 15th century is astonishing, that period knew civil wars and turmoils, and complete unstability.

I learned about this historic battle when I got curious about how and why Portugal was absorbed by Spain at one point and proceeded to do some research. It led me all the way to this battle, which decisively weakened the royal family and the country of Portugal, triggering succession crisis and civil wars, and ultimately allowing Spain the golden opportunity to exploit the situation and take over Portugal. On the other hand the battle strengthened the Moroccan Saadi regime which then began its, albeit brief, ascent to regional power status. Thanks a lot for bringing this pivotal battle to attention. This battle deserves to be much better known.

Props to Mohammed Al-Sheikh for having not one but 3 incredibly talented sons who all created a realm stronger than they got. That's incredibly rare throughout history

Kholat, my tribe participated in this battle because it took place on their lands. They displayed great courage and ferocity against the enemy, which led the Sultan to take half of their horsemen and incorporate them into his army as a reward for their bravery.

Sebastian: I don’t do scouting! Also Sebastian: I don’t do supply lines!

I admire the courage and sense of sacrifice of Abd Almalik... This is so inspiring and it shows what true leaders are made of!!!!
  • The battle of Alcácer-Quibir was a devastating moment in Portugal's history, but it had significant consequences. The victory of Felipe II of Spain allowed him to become king of Portugal, beginning the period of Iberian union. With the Iberian union, the Treaty of Tordesillas was annulled, which made Brazil's territorial expansion possible.

King Abdul Malik literally saved Morocco 🇲🇦 and North Africa from a crusade that involved occupying their land, eliminating their language, culture, history, and religion Islam and spreading Catholicism as they did in the Philippines and America latino What a hero❤️‍🔥!!!

I’ve never heard about this battle, but the moment I heard the trope “the flower of (insert nation) nobility” I knew who was going to win.
  • @TheWolverine01
Troops became disenchanted with the stalled crusade. Sound like every crusades .

Morocco has a great history with its own empire, they once conquered and ruled Spain and Portugal for centuries 🇲🇦

Truly one of the greatest rulers I think ive ever heard of. The Sultan Abd dying and likely miserable beyond belief put his people first and used the last of his life's energy to inspire them.
