The menopause is a huge event in a woman’s life when it comes to skin.

It’s a scary number: 30%. Collagen. Gone. In only 5 years. And if you’ve been naughty with your sun behaviour, it will be magnified even further. It’s going to be more at risk of wrinkling, sagging, dehydrating and sensitivity. So there’s some work to be done to turn this around, ladies. The sooner you can pre-empt this situation, the better.

  • Harsh info, but the reality. No one talks about skin/skin care for menopausal gals. I've been menopausal since age 35 (full hysterectomy) and unluckily dealt with thin, dry, sensitive skin prior so at age 50 now, I look and feel 60. Hormones are a blessing and a curse. Thanks for this video Dr. Sam.

Oh dear, how I regret my sunbathing days. Wrinkles are a pain but sun spots/ melasma is so depressing!
  • Yes yes yes thank you! So many approaches ignore the metabolic changes. You are the first Dermatologist I’ve watched to formally address these topics so concisely.
  • Really good to hear about looking after post menopausal skin, it is something that does not seem to be covered very often. Will look forward to neck care info as this is an area that gets forgotten until it's too late.

I’ve always taken good care of my skin. I never really liked the sun, no smoking or drinking, might sound like a boring life. Now at almost 60 I look great. I’ve also been using prescription retin a for almost 40 years.

Thank you so much! I am looking forward to your neck and hands visor next.
  • Thank you Dr Sam. Could you expand on this for those of us who are a few years in. I have battled keeping my sunscreen on during the worst sweats and it paid off. I would love any and all advice you can share.

Thanks for this video Dr. Sam! I had a surgical menopause in my late 20s and I'm now 51 so I stopped HRT a few years ago. I have acne prone oily skin and it hasn't been any easier as I got older. Looking forward to your videos and happy holidays everyone!
  • Dr. Sam, yes please more on this topic. Suggestions on the types of additives would helpful. Love your videos.

Thanks Dr Sam for some great information. As an Australian in her mid 60s, my face isn't too bad but my hands have lots of sun spots and the skin is thinning. I hope in another video you will include the best ways to treat these problems.
