After a volcanic eruption along the border of China and North Korea, seismologists warn that another devastating eruption is imminent that will reduce the entire region to rubble. Renowned geoscientist Bong-rae sees only one way to stop the explosion: By the targeted use of nuclear warheads at the volcano, the catastrophe should be prevented. Together with his team, the explosives expert In-chang is sent to North Korea to free the imprisoned spy Joon-pyeong. The political defector is the only one who knows where the warheads are located. A race against time begins to save all of Korea.

  • I love it when disaster movies focus on a random person that get caught up in the event, even if they die in the end. Just having the audience root for this random guy and putting us in their shoes.

    Best Hyundai commercial EVER! 👍🏽😎🤣

That’s not China, it’s Korea And one more: Ashfall is a 2019 movie

This movie is surprisingly good. It's less about the quake than it makes it appear though, and actually the quake is a symptom of the real disaster, a volcano. The plot to solve all this is rather convoluted and it's not really about that. It's about a couple of relationships within the group of people working on the fix. But it's very well shot, the effects are really solid. It's a satisfying film really.

1:43 The way he avoided those things rolling at him reminded me of Donkey Kong.
  • The main takeaway I got is that during an earthquake so violent that is can rip buildings free from their foundations, it’s possible to drive smoothly and are able to quickly redirect your steering and aren’t at all hindered by the ground causing your center of gravity to shift 10x per second

I haven't seen great apocalyptic driving like that since John Cusack in 2012! Awesome special effects. Hopefully this will be released in the U.S. 🤞
  • As the city collapses around him, Joe Ordinary suddenly develops Bill Hickman-level driving skills.

Obviously is Korea but goddamn that Hynudai commersial is so good
  • In every disaster film only heroes can drive, sail, fly through the falling building, raising sea.

If there was an earthquake that bad and buildings fall down, no way in heck would a human be even close to being able to run, they would be flat on their faces. No way in heck would the streets be that empty too.

The oddest thing to me is how they represented the collapsing. It almost seems like is a controlled demolishing of a building, but on a bigger scale and uncontrolled. But, realistic and satisfying nonetheless.
  • That fact that when that guy was driving to escape the earthquake, he crashed to many things but his car is still clean and perfect.
  • @kleswoo
Love it that it's all Korean words on the walls🤣
