Monitoring your blood pressure at home is a critical element to keeping your blood pressure under control. When it's high you typically don't have symptoms and oftentimes when you come see me you get nervous and your blood pressure goes up. It's very helpful if you are taking it on a regular basis at home so we can tell if we need to make some adjustments. Here are a few options in blood pressure monitors that can help you with this:

  • What many patients do not understand is that the side effects are nothing compared to having a stroke! I’ve been an RN for 24 years. Strokes are devastating and deadly. Please, have your BP checked and listen to your physician.
  • I'm scared of taking medicine because you'll get a prescription for one thing. But then it will be destroying something else in your body. That's not a problem i want.
  • I was taking both lisinopril-hydrochlorothiazi & amlodipine for over 6 years. After some health issues that landed me in the hospital twice taking test after test for heart, kidneys, liver, gallbladder, a cat scan & more. They couldn’t find a problem. When sitting at home after all these test, I discovered that all my symptoms were the also the side effects of the amlodipine. My BP at this point was running 145/80 & I was getting hypertension. My doctor didn’t think I should stop, but I did cold turkey. It’s been 17 days, my BP is 123/62 since stopping. Can I get your thoughts of just staying on the lisinopril-hydrochlorothiazi. I’ve also started loosing weight, no more swollen legs, BP’s down, head rushes, dizziness, heart beating in my throat are gone. Thank You Guy

Love that information but the music make it hard to concentrate.
  • I am currently taking this medication and I have the low electrolytes, dizziness, no appetite, headaches, lower back pain around my kidneys, and I almost passed out 2 days ago. For the last 2 days I stopped taking the pills and have been drinking water with electrolytes and now I feel totally better. Tomorrow I will make an appointment with my doctor because this medication is not for me.

You seem like an awesome, caring doctor. My current doctor (not my choice - very limited choices where I live) is an uncaring jerk.

After being exposed to sun in the mountains all spring, I got a very bad sunburn taking hydrochlorothiazide when swimming laps outdoors for 1 hour. it is necessary for me to use an outdoor pool during the pandemic. I want to speak to doctor about not taking it before and after exposure to sun, but not quitting it.

I was taking 10mg of lisinopril and 12.5 mg of hydrochlorothizide, and still having high blood pressure. I asked the dr. If I should double my lisinopril, he said no double the hydrochlorothizide which I did, still high blood pressure. Then my cardiologist told me to double my lisinopril to 20mg I did, blood pressure came down but i kept having a pressure headache everyday,so i halfed My hydrochlorothizide, now no headache and blood pressure is good👍🏼 Which I suggested long ago.

It also causes sudden low blood sugar that can escalate into diabetes permanently.
  • Just make sure you're never more than 30 minutes away from a bathroom or you're gonna have a problem.
  • @Wandxo
Thank you! I just got prescribed and was a little apprehensive. I agree the theory of side effects doesn’t outweigh heart or stroke possibility… s

Male, Age 63. Plant Based 6+ years (not sure of "vegan" as my twice weekly treat is a Subway Oatmeal-Raisin cookie on free cookie day) with fruits, veg, beans, grains. no dairy-meat. watch salt like an obsessive,. I had lost 160 pounds but in the past year regained 30 lbs, no changes in my eating content, but I have been eating more. Also, less exercise with the general feeling in the past year with the way things have been turned upside down. At my annual last month I was 170/100. Since then at home daily I have been measuring 142/88 to 150/90. Once 135/85. . Also, 160/92. Nothing near the 170/`100 at the office. Still, I know the at home readings are above the Big Pharma chart. Of course, my Dr. instantly leaped for his prescription pad but I told him now (which he didn't like as he wanted the sales commission). He gave me six months to a return visit.

Great, informative video. However, the background music is not only too loud, it is not necessary.
  • Just started it I had really bad side effects. Dizziness, nauseous, fatigue, made me have shaky feeling like my blood was low.
  • @femckay
I hated it. Because it gave me hot flashes and I was 71 years old! Also I wasn’t retaining fluid at all. I’m doing well on Small does of Irbasarten and Metoprolol. I’m now 78 and doing well with my BP!
