It's not the first time Linus has been running around late night in his pajamas due to a hacker.

Honestly, one of the biggest failures in Twitter in all this is how horrible their 2FA is implemented. It ONLY guards initial login. It isn't used to protect password change or 2FA removal. The only thing they do right is invalidate the code after its first use. Realistically, requiring a second 2FA prompt to change the password, or requiring two consecutive 2FA prompts to remove the authenticator would significantly reduce the ability to phish this.

GREAT idea with the Shop Talk šŸ‘ Looking forward to see you together again
  • @jmtx.
'They got Linus, they can get anybody.' ... you guys are giving Linus way too much credit.

I would suggest placing the "Shop Talk!" in the beginning so we can sort through your videos in the future. I suspect this is going to keep going, and I am super excited about this new modality of Dave!

Hey Dave, thanks for all your work here.

Windows 24H2 preview fixed my 11th gen Intel performance issues on a test system at work. Seems this is a great update all around.
  • When I heard about it, I was thinking that their video would start with "and here's a segue to our sponsor, Anonymous."

Is it better to say Linus got Phished rather than Linus got Hacked? Hacking has connotations that the authentication or something else was compromised rather than credentials were just disclosed
  • @Serpsss
Linus being careless & sloppy? Never šŸ˜‚.
  • Love the format, Dave. Thanks for the content Glen. Great balance of views.
  • @gpTeacher
Great to hear two long time tech buddies discussing the tech issues of the day in good natured relaxed chat. Thanks!

Any time you get an unsolicited request for your credentials, don't give them. Only put in credentials in connections that you initiated.
  • I meet them in the middle and call them xitter. As for the hack, I blame the complete and utter confusion anyone would naturally go through regardless of their know-how by not seeing the same UI design universally everywhere for the same interface. If they would, they could spot something being fishy, by for example looking at the URL... what URL? Exactly my point. Anything that goes on the web, should have an address bar. Full stop. That's why I will NEVER download an app, that is just a javascript wrapper for a website.

Phishing is such a big problem that my employer has a campaign where they send out "bait" emails. If you click on the link instead of pushing the button to report it as a phishing email, it gets reported to your manager and you get restrictions placed on your mail privileges. Great strategy, punish the user.

That was a very enjoyable episode. Hope you do more like this.
  • @bossssssist
Sad not even the heirs wanted to keep it aliveā€¦ If my father did that I would definitely be keeping it up
  • @tekvax01
I am enjoying this shop talk format! please keep it up guys!
  • Dave. You are getting too good for YT. Great and interesting interview format. At this point we love almost anything you and your team produce. I'll love to see those YT shorts on your PDP 11. Just like compilations of facts: "This is the PSU, it works like this...", or "In those days a PDP 11 was used for...". That would be awesome. And if you have at this point a good number of rare and unique machines you can think of starting a museum for real, with (say) appointed and approved visits and paying a little fee just for running it. Take a look at a channel like Look Mum No Computer where they started a retro museum of PSTN old hardware and synths. Have a nice day!

Rolling out DEC part numbers BA23, RQDX3, M7504 bringing back the glorious memories - loud? that's a symphony! Micro PDP loud a VAX 8800 with HSC70 and some RA8X drives now you got some noise!
