  • That "Saturday" line is lore and it's real... kinda. In the lore, the Saturday music video sees Clancy forced to sing to the citizens of DEMA in a submarine (water's over my head) which is something that - in the storyline - he regrets. In real life, Backslide is a song about not wanting to fall back or relapse to a point where you feel unsavable, undeserving, or unloved. Saturday is a very upbeat and happy song that received a lot of criticism from fans and critics for it's upbeat nature, with some people even making the point that if Saturday is the kind of song Tyler makes when he's happy, then they want him going back to making depressing music; Tyler feels like he made a mistake making Saturday because it's happy and he doesn't feel like he should feel that way.

This is my favorite. The chorus feels like absolutely desperation for salvation and just draws me to the song.
  • @rek8193
Can’t wait to sing this at the top of my lungs surrounded by the clique.
  • @mypathunfolding
Lyrics that stood out to me: "There's no chance I will shake this again," in reflection to the song, "No Chances." "Overcompensate" is still my favorite so far, but I feel like "Paladin Strait" will end up being the best song overall at the end of the day.

Why is no-one addressing the fact that Josh is only cooking one burger pattie?! This is seriously keeping me up at night.
  • @joshwilson918
Does anyone else think, “Take the seat with the crease in it”, could be a chlorine reference? “When I leave don’t save my seat.”
  • The “I don’t wanna” also could link to next semester “I dont wanna be here”
  • @isabelroldan00
I don't see many people talking about the "benefit from a shoe with no lace, take the seat with the crease in it, I don't mind if its lonely (...) I don't care, you control me" lyrics. The general interpretation from the people who can relate to them is that they're talking about a psychiatric admission. How isn't this hitting harder to most?

The piano and the "It's over my head" gives me self titled vibes and I love it
  • @raneunhae-idc.
This song is just like "Chlorine" Talking about creativity and how this is what he needs, if you could throw me a line, he needs ned buns to complete a song but he feels its not good enough and starts over while josh is still there waiting for tyler to complete his part in the burger 😂❤

I do relate a lot to this song when he's saying "I don't wanna backslide to where I've started from There's no chance I will shake this again" I let myself live with anxiety and become so depressed for too long before I decided to break the cycle and seek for help. I now know what are my triggers to anxiety so I can prevent it and avoid being in that loop we see in that mv. 👌 Brilliant lyrics and video ❤
  • I find it interesting that in the beginning when he threw away the bun, the guy was on the right hand side and at the end of the video when he threw away the buns the guy was on the left-hand side. Does this mean the next cycle could be different? Also, we saw the buns were wet and soggy as if the rainy day in Tyler’s head was affecting the real outside world .
  • I didn't know that Tyler had a panic attack in college! I loved the reaction!
  • @sarahplatt7046
On the line about Saturday, it might be possible that it's a Clancy thought because he was submitting to the bishops? I don't think Tyler actually regrets making Saturday. I hope he doesn't because I love that song, and my daughter, when she is with me on Saturdays, always wants me to play it.
  • I haven’t cried in 2 years and this one got me. His voice hits my soul in a way I can’t describe. Grateful for the feels. I just want to hug them both.
  • @albmntjr
I hope they sell ned bread at the merch tables
  • @marytashkin1304
Maybe I’m way off but I can’t ignore the way this seems to be a song to Ned. The bread he’s made from Ned-wasting it (not using the creativity the way he thinks he should?). That would connect to the wish I never made Saturday line - played to the industry too much instead of staying true to his own creativity. But now he’s pleading to Ned that he should’ve loved him better but also saying that he is now over his head and maybe he should let this go. Maybe?
