I got called to tow a BLM fire service pickup off the Camp Creek Fire after it had electrical troubles and died at base camp. So I took the rollback out and headed into the Ochoco Mountains towards the fire. After getting there and getting the truck loaded up I learned that this is a very special truck named Natalie, so when making up the invoice and put "Natalie" in the vehicle description to see if it would clear the payables department!

Be sure to check out our Patreon project where we use whatever it brings in in a month as our budget to help someone the following month! I was never a fan of the Patreon idea until I realized that I can use it to help others instead of myself, so I created the Patreon Project where we can all combine our efforts to make a real difference in people's lives and make the world a better place! For as little as a dollar a month you can join the group of awesome people already on board and be vote to help steer the ship along the way!

  • Take a 3 axel truck on a tow that could have been done with a regular tow car ? Maybe you get to charge US the public more for that truck? Oregon what else could you expect.

My wife and I are on a "hired equipment" dozer team at the Park Fire in Chico. I hate seeing all the devastation but I love seeing all of the equipment working. Stay safe firefighters.

When I was younger I was involved with a volunteer fire department in Southwest Colorado. Although our fires did not get anywhere near as big as yours we did have a few which got our adrenaline going. There's nothing like cutting down a 20-foot cedar tree, which is on fire in the center! My prayers go out for the firefighters that they remain safe

Casey doing Casey stuff. Thanks for sharing your adventures. Thumbs up to all the men and women fighting the fires, stay safe and Godspeed.

The PNW is on fire (again) this year - prayers to all the people involved on every level. No matter how small someone may feel their contribution is, it does, and it's appreciated, and without people like you going and doing what you do, their jobs would be harder. The lessons on fire breaks are always good to know - people need to better understand just how hard these crews are working.
  • You are definitely not wrong about how good those meatloaf sandwiches are. About twice a month I drive 73 miles to get to one of those meatloaf sandwiches.
  • Thank You Casey for all of your efforts to help! I am praying that Dave’s farm and his neighbors farms can all be saved❤🙏 I’m so sad for everyone that has been affected by these fires.😢 Stay safe.

Thanks for explaining the fire control tactics used in your area. I used to fight wildfire in the Missouri Ozarks - different conditions, different terrain, therefore different tactics. Most of the time the fire was in the deep ground litter and brush in fairly dense, mostly oak forest. We could usually stop it using three person ground crews. First a guy with a backpack blower created an initial line. Two guys walking with the blower used spring rakes to dress up and widen that line and start backfires on the inside (toward the main fire) of that line. When the main fire reached the area, the available fuel was already burned, so the fire was stopped. On larger jobs, the state agency sent in a 'tractor plow' which was a small dozer on tracks with a stout plow mounted to the rear. Those could plow a line much faster than we could walk. Our ground teams would follow with spring rakes dressing up that line and starting backfires.

Someone needs to lobby all truck manufacturers to build in standardized recovery hook attachments.

Great video, Casey. Gives viewers a look of how forest fires are from the staging area and the logistics of how crews need backup. Met a man once. His plan was to utilize lunch trucks to provide meals at the staging areas for firemen and others. The news shows firecrews, but never resting, eating, toilets, basic needs. Like armies, these needs have to be planned beforehand.

Good morning Casey you are very knowledgeable about stuff and sharing things to educate people
  • @flatdaddio
Rollback seems to be running great!! Glad to see it being used. Great video!

That old homestead you commented on is the old Glenn stage stop aka Maury Stage Stop at the turn onto Camp Crk rd.
  • @patvirgin8822
Thanks for sharing your knowledge of not only how they fight fires, but why they do it the way it's done. Be safe.
  • Thank you for taking us along. I prefer driving videos versus just showing us once you have arrived.
  • Casey, sorry to disappoint but I've never hated you. On the other hand you could get some hate back when the billing goes in on Natalie. Could be they want the exact vehicle description. You know how them bureaucrats can be! "Bill Rejected for lack of full legal name (EXAMPLES: Miss Natalie, Ms Natalie, Natalie The Great, Empress Natalie of the Northwestern Kingdom, etc). Corrected billing must be received by ...".
  • I have a feeling you don't hear this enough Casey but thank you for all your hard work
  • Glad you were able to save Natalie. That Siller Brothers Aviation helicopter in the video is based out of where I live. Great to see them out representing.
