i loved the red rattlers, they had a smell and character like no other suburban train not keen on the idea of driverless trains
  • I love the 3801 steam locomotives. I think most other rail fans would like them too.

Those lazy afternoons traveling at sunset going home on a red rattler looking out the windows at the twinkle of house lights as the sound of the clunk a clunk coming from those metal wheels along with that unforgettable squealing brake noise they use to make. It was so long ago at a time so different .

We definitely will need a flashback when the Zig-Zag railway comes back....hopefully by years end or mid-next year

From Sydney CBD to Greater Paramatta all through a steam train, impressive.

U could open the windows and even the ones at the doors and in the summer days they used get steamy hot

Its a pity the 3801 now gets its parts from Germany

3:06- Is that one of nadnerbster r's timelapse videos? The music I heard sounds familiar and that section, too. How did Channel 7 get that part of the video on news?

This news report is totally scattered and disjointed... but some good bits in here like the videos of old steam trains and red rattlers.

So basically the Sydney network trains are designed a little something like this: D sets are based off the B sets which are based off of the A sets which are based off of the H sets which are based off of the T sets which are based off of the V sets which are based off of the S sets which are based off of the K sets which are based off of the C sets which are based off of the U sets which are based off of the F sets.
