Just received a cheap tie pin microphone that I've fashioned with a strip of old credit card plastic into a clip on microphone for a trumpet. This was recorded on the first take with the backing track played on youtube at 100% mic volume with 0db mic boost in Audacity. I added a little compression on the top and bottom and some reverb (small room dark) from the presets in Audacity. The backing track was chosen for simplicity and familiarity - Aebersold Vol 1 pentatonic blues. All in all I'm very happy with this mic since it cost me a little more than double the cost of the watch battery that I had to buy to power it. Radio Shack Realistic Electret Tie Pin Microphone 33-1063.

Here's a pic of the rig:

damn, not bad for an old clip mic, though the static that comes on when no mids are being played is unfortunate
