I took my time with this episode because I kept running into a wall when trying to balance what I wanted Xaero's active and passive abilities to be, with what Quake Champions lacks. When I finally settled on something I had to figure out how best to demonstrate it using the game. This took a while so I hope you're able to follow along!

I dont know if it is because of the way you describe it, but these character designs seem cumbersome. Seems to me that other champs have much simpler ability initiation. Thanks for these vids, they are fun to watch <3

well done, I like this quake theory thing, keep it up.
  • I love that the abilities make so much sense for the character. He got where he was by just being the best and being entertaining for the Arena Eternal's operators, and so to make the best use of him, you need to do stuff that's very skillful or very risky.

wow you are the first person thats put together an ability that I don't actually hate...It really makes sense for it to be activated because you earned something(mid air etc), instead of the meme of 'push f to attack/escape/etc' REally hope they give your idea a try!

I don't think we have a champ right now that encourages a risk/reward playstyle, I think this concept is the ticket. Keep these theory videos coming! - I'd also like to hear your thoughts on how some current champions could be rebalanced. Galena for instance, imo, she is a good champion in concept and for beginner players. But in practice, her active ability encourages players to exploit out of map positions with her totem placement.

I dont know about passive, I think the best thing about it would be no footstep sound when performing correct strafe J, but if you break to do a turn and restart the Strafe the sound will appear and once you get strafe done you go silent again. Avoid death thing the first thought passing to my head is how to avoid it, He screams that indicate he is under 50 hp and I know that I will have to Rail and get the fuck out there for 3 seconds so he just die alone. Looks easy for middle range and extending distance from that. Anyways... I dont have a better idea so I think yours would be appreciated. I dont know about everyone here but I think its a fucking heresy that the Elite champion that stands alone as the master of all in Quake3 just dont exists in Qchampions.

Xaero is such an awesomely designed character, he'd sure feel awesome to have in QC.

I found long ago Xaero's worst vulnerability is the rocket launcher. To some extent he will pursue you when he has health and rockets can deal damage and deny him access, then trade a railgun shot; if he's fleeing you know for certain he is low;it almost becomes too simple once you practice. You can easily control the map even if he has 100% acc, he wants to use that to his advantage, obviously the counter being that there are projectiles you can throw for area denial. On most maps while he's one of the most/more formidable opponents he is predictable in where he will move especially on hallway maps. His preference for railgun and the fact he will come straight for you thinking aim will win for him, is his actual weakness, as well as his strength; the other better AIs handle weapon swapping better so also without railgun he won't do as well. As for if they are adding something, I haven't even loaded up Quake Champions.

Oh my gawd, such a potential for this games future. But after a certain point it will b 2 difficult to learn well and it stops being fun after you've got 2 know 57 skills and abilities of every character to play this. Maybe he can be a 2 mode trigger character? Active and passive? Idk what could the other mode do, but I want Xaeros melee be his scorpion tail whipping additional 25 damage on a 10 unit range melee proximity every {scorpion stinging frequency}/seconds, for instance, as a passive.

I actually shared something like the very similar on Reddit and ppl agreed. They would love to see Xearo return in Quake champions

Active ability is ok but passive is shit. Abilities should be simple and understandble. Switching q3 to aircontrol or maybe adding desh movement is a good idea but for Xaero. I think Xaero should be master of movement, its simple, understandable and suit to QC mechanic and Xaero essence.

and here I am just wishing we could get our local servers back (South Africa)

Omg I’m gold pull it off but struggle under pressure help me been playing for too long now but can never breach this level
  • I'd like to see more humiliation abilities. I've always been a huge fan of close quarter fights and surprise attacks such as using gauntlet (and fists in Doom 3). They tried it with Death Knight's gauntlet, why not some other players? I really think they should implement the ability (passive) to steal weapons like in Doom 3 multiplayer when you punch someone. I used this a lot when I was weak on hp and I'd end up killing the player hunting me with their own weapon. It shocks the opponent and before they know what happened they're dead and they now know not to get so close to you. It also messes up their inventory until they pick up that weapon again. This should have really been Visor's passive ability when using gauntlet, but it could work with Xaero too. It's based on the risk/reward principle. It's hard to pull off but it feels great to go out in style before you die... and you might actually win the frag yourself. Opponent: "Aha, I have you now!.. *rushes in for the frag. Xaero: "Come and get me... but be careful!"
